This is a real newbie question - do these type of devices (in Particular the RoadPilot MicroGo) still operate when they are "database expired" or do they stop functioning until they are updated.

TIA

I can answer my own question - they still work fine (or at least the Road Pilot MicroGo does)

It tells you it's expired and you just press the button and it carries on. It continues to operate as a GPS speedo and still warns of exisitng cameras.

As a solution to my OP in the motorcycle thread - £18 odd quid on eBay for a GPS accurate (and legible) speedometer was a very smart move.
