I went to the satmap stand at The Outdoor Show today and had a look at the new 'plus'. The world basemap is a little more detailed than I had
expected, still considering the upgrade. They tell me it just a plug in card
upgrade despite the fact you have to send the unit back to them,
something tells me that the £40 basemap upgrade would be very easy to
clone and distribute....
The goto postcode does exactly what it says on the box, full 7 digit,
now all we need is the summits to have letter boxes.
Also available at the show for the right cash right now are a few Europe maps. Things really are picking up pace on the development front. |

What you were told about the World base map being supplied on memory card rather contradicts what they told me on Friday! - It is a return to Satmap for installation though.
Lighting conditions at the show were from from ideal but I managed to grab a couple of pictures with the world map on display:
What I was very impressed with were the new Swiss maps, they have a 3D style appearance due to the shading and colours used - ike |

i am interested long term ; well next year re Swiss maps.
I like to go to whizz around on the trains and walking especially environs line between Filisur and Tirano- nothing better than a cup of coffee on the terrace at Alp Grum looking out over valley and viewing a glacier or down the valley towards Poshiavo.
So was any price mentioned at all mike |

for 1:50k ish maps about £80 and 1:25 about £120 I said that was a bit steep but the saleman said that would be for the whole country.
with regard to the basemap upgrade I think that satmap want the units returning to base because if the upgrade card was to be released into the public domain the software would be on the torr3nt share sites in no time at all, they are wisely protecting their investment. |

I didn't ask about prices but I am sure these new maps will be available soon on the Satmap web site (check it out 01/04/09), when you see the Swiss maps on the device you will see what I mean about the quality and finish, its the first time I have seen anything that beats the apperance of the Ordnance Survey maps we are all so used to - Mike |
