At present i have the TT530t and i'm considering upgrading to the TT540 Live. Can anyone tell me what the differences are, as my understanding is that the only real differnce on any note is the 530t does not have HD Live updates.
Having just watched a presentation on one of the selling channels (ideal world) there looks to be very little difference between the 2 models, except from what i've already wrote and that the screen icons have been updated.
I'm now wondering if it is worth the price to upgrade.
Comments and thoughts, please. _________________ Keith

As you have noted, the 540 is a connected device i.e. it has a GSM data connection so can retrieve 'live' traffic information from TomTom's HD Traffic service as well as perform Google searches for addresses. LIVE also brings fuel prices, speed cameras, weather and buddies.
After the initial 3 month trial you will require a subscription at a cost of £7.99 per month to access the LIVE services. If you don't wish to have a subscription or see no benefit in the LIVE services then there is little point in upgrading. The 530 is a great device and performs the core functions in the exact same way as the 540. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren,
I would expect the core functions to be the same between both models, its just the added extras that make the differnce between the models.
I gather the speed cameras are now linked into road angel, which must be a good thing. I'm not too bothered about Google search, or petrol prices, nor buddies for that matter.
I would only need the HD Live for the traffic updates.
I also find that the prices for the 540 vary from web site to web site, anything from 185gbp to around the 250gbp. _________________ Keith

Still lots of issues reported with RoadAngel's cameras on the x40's. So I wouldn't necessarily assume they are perfect because RA supply them.
At the end of the day the choice is yours, if you think the HD Traffic is worth the subscription or not. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Don't forget that with the x40 range only the 940 has the mp3 player capability, at least with the 530T you get the mp3 player - Mike |

Yes right there is a lot to be said for the 530t.
I would however i've thought that after 5 months or so since the launch of the 540 Live things would be getting better. From what i've been reading there's a lot for good feedback being posted about the 540 Live. I'm not quite sure on how the RA set up works, but can only think that - it will get better.
At the end of the day i just want to get from A to B, and know what hold ups i might come across, and how to get round then, plus know where the speed cameras are. _________________ Keith

Yes you could use the RDS-TMC receiver with the 540 BUT if your receiver is the type with a round plug on the end of the cable you will need to purchase an accessory mount for the 540 for somewhere to plug it in.
If you have the mini USB equipped RDS-TMC that will plug straight in to the mount supplied with the 540 - Mike |

Thanks Mike for the info.
Mines the round plug at the end of the cable, so if i do up grade then i'll sell the 530t with the RDS TMC and get a newer cable with the 540 Live.
Thanks Mike _________________ Keith
