Just bought a 775t and was wondering if anyone here has one and if issues I list below have been encountered by anyone else

1) The unit has both European and USA maps (going to Florida this year hence reason I got this model). I registered on Garmin and it stated that I could update my map for free which I did for the European one no problem but it will cost me £59 for the USA one. Is this correct? i.e you only get one "free" map update per unit even thou the Garmin model you buy may come with two different maps installed ?

2) One of the reasons that I picked this model is it said it had lifetime free TRAFFIC tmc I can't get this to work and when I look on my unit it appears the only subscription that is installed is a NAVTEQ (US, CAN) Lifetime Subscription? does this mean that I have to pay to get UK traffic ! if so not impressed and feel that this unit has been mislabeled Crying or Very sad

3) my previous Garmin 510d came with a dvd/cd which included a program called map source akin to autoroute which allowed me to preplan routes on my home pc and then upload them onto the gps. no dvd/cd came with the 775t and I find it strange this functionality is not available on an expensive unit like the 775t ? hope I am incorrect !

thanks, all/every comments appreciated.

There are other members here with 7x5 models, however most of the problems you have here should be easily resolved.

1) Not sure about multi map models myself so I'll leave this one.

2) Where did you buy this from? The TMC units generally only work in the country they were bought in. Is there a model number on the power lead / TMC unit?

3) MapSource can be downloaded from this page

Does the plug in charger have Garmin GTM21 on the top of the label? This is the IK / European version whereas the GTM20 is the version for US / Canada.

Given there is a difference between the two I don't know if you can receive traffic in both areas.

It's possible you don't get very good signal for the TMC. When it's plugged in what do the coloured LEDs do?

Bav10,
Yes. The little 'sticky' label which is wrapped round the lead nearest the plug-in bit. With the traffic unit plugged in the Traffic Option becomes available in Settings and under Traffic Provider Subs it shows

NAVTEQ (US, CAN)
Lifetime Subsription

PaulB2005,

I'm aware of the problems with TMC around the UK but have a 510d with lifetime traffic which shows reception 'sometime' and is "working".

With the 775t I seem to get the same flashing light sequence on first start up then the solid green lights later so it appears to be "receiving"

Once plugged in the first thing the unit will do is determine which country you are in. Page 27 of the Nuvi 775T Owners Manual gives you the codes and their meanings. What does yours do?

Sorry ignore the above.

From Page 48

Tools, Settings, Traffic. Is there an option called "Current"? If you click it can you check it is set to "Auto"?

You can also use "Find More" to search for new providers.

What does it say under "Subscriptions"?

It seems weird you have a UK GTM device but it's showing a US subscription.

PaulB2005,
Have a long drive from London to Sheffield in a couple of hours and intend to have a "play" then with settings. One thing I haven't done yet is select option to "Clear the list of traffic providers before searching". I didn't chose this last time as I was unsure whether it was right way to go, but on the manual link you pointed me to it says do this so fingers crossed ! Only manual that came with my Garmin was 6 copies in different languages including English of the quick start manual with only 8 pages Evil or Very Mad

My 765 is the same, it has never received a transmission, GTM 21 and shows Total Traffic Network (US, CAN) under subscriptions.

All,
No response from Garmin customer support Mad but basically I took the tmc from my old 510D and plugged it into the 775t and managed to get tmc sporadically. Looking at small print related to my 775t purchase it only says free USA traffic but doesn't mention UK which I think is a bit of a con! I don't believe buying the tmc uk upgrade for the 775t is worthwhile if its performance will be no better than what I am getting with my old 510D lead. Can anyone comment if they have had the same sort of experience i.e direct comparison of tmc lead on an old Garmin compared to using it on a new model?

Rgds

Rich

p.s I want to take this issue up directly with Garmin but my e-mails go unanswered. Can anyone advise best number / method of getting a response. Thank you.

Garmin helpline is 0808 238 0000 (a freephone number I think).

At the prompt, press 1 to talk about satnavs.

They are very civil people.

Dales.
