Hi,
I'm a bit stuck on this one but basically I downloaded the UK & Republic of Ireland map for my GO 920T via the TomTom Home application and installed onto the GO 920T which worked correctly since Christmas. I then paid for the 4 yearly updates at £27 ish for the map updates. Today I downloaded the 1st of said updates and upon reboot of the GO 920T it said that it was unable to run the UK & Ireland-26 map on this device ???

Whats happening here? If it let me download the map which ran correctly after being installled why will it now not let me use the updated UK & rep of Ireland map now

Many Thanks

Alan (Mac)

Assume you mean ignore a duplicate post rather than the original question?

What firmware version are you using (tap where it gives your ETA etc then the small box at the bottom right). You may need the updated firmware to run the latest map - otherwise it shows "No map found".

Be sure to back up before and after upgrading using Windows Explorer. See number 1 in the FAQ here.

Ok, I think I know why the new UK & Rep of Ireland map won't work.....I checked the map folder on my TomTom device and there isn't a mapsettings.cfg file ...its missing. Unfortunately I don't have a backup....I know I should have one, anyway does anyone have a copy I could have for the UK & Rep of Ireland map v825.2157

Many thanks in anticipation

Can you do a pin reset? Hopefully, a new MapSettings.cfg file will get created in the specific map folder.

Yeah, already tried that and the mapsettings.cfg doesn't appear to have been created in the map folder Sad

I have a similar problem on a TomTom One Xl. Following your post I copied a previous version of mapsettings.cfg to the Western Europe map folder but it didn't make any diffrence.
Now waiting on a reply from Tom Tom Support!! Mad

The MapSettings.cfg file will be created when you enter some details that require saving, unless your card is write protected/ read only.

The newer applications and maps don't seem to work with old MapSettings.cfg files so the device will either re-boot continually in a loop or simply delete the file and create a new empty MapSettings file if it cannot read the contents. Consider moving away from using Favourites as they can cause more issues than they are worth - convert your old MapSettings.cfg file to a custom POI file which has a number of benefits:

1/ Application updates won't delete the contents
2/ Map updates won't delete the contents
3/ Ability to store phone numbers against each location
4/ Unlimited number of locations per custom POI
5/ Ability to warn when near (if required)

There are instructions on how to convert the MapSettings.cfg file to a custom POI file on the AQ page (number 15) which can be found Here - Mike

I did have a backup that I burnt to DVD just before Christmas, so I copied and pasted the mapsettings.cfg file from the dvd backup to the map folder on my device......but still no joy, still says that I can't use the UK & rep of Ireland map on this device. Looks llike I'll have to email customer support at TomTom.

Check that the file ypu copied from the DVD does not have the Read Only attribute set. This can be done by looking at the Properties of the file with Windows Explorer.

Anything copied from a DVD or CD has this set by default, I have found.

Trust me, it's nothing to do with MapSettings.cfg

Add me to the list of people who are no longer able to use their Western & Central Europe map after the update to v8.25. Sigh.

Put in a call with TomTom, we'll see what they say...

They really aren't doing well these past few months, are they?
