pocketgpsworld.comA reminder to all that the clocks will go forward tonight and as well as losing an hour's sleep/rest you also need to adjust your Timezone in the forum profile.

From tomorrow morning we will be moving to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+1). So for our UK readers you will all need to change the timezone setting in your profile to GMT either before you go to bed or when you awake to ensure your posts and those of others display the correct time.

The setting can be found in your profile accessed from the link at the top of the forums. In your profile, scroll towards the bottom where you will find the the preferences section and change the Timezone from GMT to GMT+1. If you are not in the UK then you should ensure you are using the correct time offset (+ or -) as necessary.

Unfortunately this has to done manually by every user when the clocks change but it is a simple process. When the clocks go back in the Autumn the process should be reversed.

If you do forget then posts will appear to have been posted an hour earlier so please do make the change, you have been forewarned!

Darren,

Shouldn't that sentence read "From tomorrow morning we will be moving to British Summer Time (GMT+1)."?

Also, when I quoted your post, it seems to contain invalid HTML tags!

It's the "greater than" and "less than" symbols used in the Image URL. Wink

It's not just that. It seems that Darren's post is different to "normal" posts. For instance, the emboldened word profile is enclosed in "real HTML" tags, LT b GT ... LT /b GT rather than the
Code:
[b]profile[/b]
from a "normal" post. But if I try to post
Code:
 LT b GT
I get the warning, even if I try it in a [code] section!

However, that's only general interest and is way off topic! I still think it is Summer Time Laughing

Sorry guys, I lazily copied the BST - GMT post from last Autumn and edited it - badly!

Admin's can use HTML primarily because it is a component of the front page news posts which frequently launch a thread here.

I'll not bother editing my post and covering my tracks, but the important bit is that everyone realises that they lose an hour tomorrow and more importantly they update their profile timezone setting!

We preach it every year and every year without fail a dozen members get caught out, we can but try!

A far more searching question though is why do we still do this twice yearly ritual of putting clocks forwards and backwards, does it actually gain anyone anything these days - Mike

Exactly - I work to GMT, my bike clock does, my microwave does, my watch does. Sky plus can do what it wants.

Actually, since January 1972, I think the correct teminology should be UTC + 1.

Although I think it's a bit pretentious calling it Universal Time as that implies that the rest of the universe must have agreed to it.

Laughing You know that someone's gonna ask, "What's Zulu, and why're you noting everything as Lima?" Twisted Evil

(I hasten to add that I very much do know the differences ;))

Why not just do it for us by running some SQL?
eg
UPDATE Members SET TimeZone='BST' WHERE TimeZone = 'GMT' and Country = 'UK'
(or similar) Smile

By the way, the "Click here to read more..." link doesn't work and gives page not found.

Because loads of members haven't set their location.

I am fairly certain that Alpha is local time wherever you are. It was when I was in the forces anyway.
