Hello

I'm hoping someone can help with the following problem.

I have a TomTom 930T and I am having problems connecting it to my PC. When I connect the device to my Laptop, running Vista business, and turn on the TomTom I get a message telling me its an unknown device. Before this error message appears, the TomTom asks me if I want to connect to the PC as normal if I answer yes the device then appears to hang.

If I remove it from the cradle, the device appears to restart and I get a message asking me to confirm I agree to the usual conditions about safe driving etc. In all other aspects, the device works perfectly well.

I have also connected the device to other other PC's, one running XP the other Vista, and still get the same result.

I have raised this TomTom directly but they appear unable to solve this problem.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a soft reset? Are you plugging directly into a PC/Laptop USB port rather than a USB hub?

Maybe TomTom should read their own help files!

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately both suggestions have been tried without any success.

I believe that there is an issue with the storage media in the device or some sort of firmware issue. No matter how many different PC's I try to connect to they just dont see it as a hard drive or a known USB drive.

TomTom have escalated this to there second line support but I dont hold out much hope.

Try a different USB lead between the device and the PC - Mike

Have already tried that along with trying it on three different PC's, I get the same result each time.

Has anyone any other thoughts on this?

Do you have a backup? If so and you can see the contents of the unit using Explorer, remove the loose files of the unit's root (in other words, the system files) and restore from a backup. Try that.
