Well according to the OS,the Route Planner should be up and running tomorrow.

Quote:
I can confirm that the licensing terms and conditions between Ordnance Survey and SatMap have been agreed and our legal department are now in the process of formalising this agreement. It is hoped that the route planner will be available from 9 February.

Let's hope so after all this time.

Well it's 4:30pm and I have just checked the Satmap site and no route planner is evident, planned to do some routes tonight as well.

It would be nice be told by Satmap/OS why it hasn't appeared,Satmap has the e-mail addresses of all registered users,it can't be that difficult.

To be fair it wasn't Satmap who claimed today was D-Day. I'm sure when it is to be launched Satmap will tell us, pre-judging the event is pointless.

Maybe they took exception to unauthorised use of the beta version.

I think I saw somewhile ago that the half price maps were a January special and they are still on offer. The website is not changed very often.

I agree, the satmap website never seems to be undated.

To be honest if you have such a state of the art item like the Satmap you would think the company would have a fantastic looking and regular updated website

I find the website looks really dull

Can we please have some news about when the route planner is going to get to us

I am not pre-judging anything,it was Satmap who claimed that they were simply awaiting the nod from the OS and it was the OS who said it would be sorted by today.

All I was asking was that, one way or another, purchasers should be informed as to why it has not appeared. There may be a perfectly acceptable reason, but we seem to have returned to the Satmap "Wall of Silence" again.

Bosun

As far as I am aware SatMap have never made any public announcement of when the planner will be available. Maybe they foolishly made some comments to individuals but I'm sure they are learning their lessons which is probably a pity.

Since I first saw a comment that we might see the planner go public last weekend there was a flurry of comments/activity around their beta test programme which I believe forced them to close it and move it to a different site. This cannot have helped them.

Maybe it is better to wait for a while and leave them to sort things out.

This is yet another public relations disaster. We all want Satmap to succeed but they seem to be going out of their way to alienate users.

I think that need to stop making promises they can't deliver on. Every date they have ever put out from the very earliest days has been never been met.

And YES. They did tell me it would be up yesterday! (and last month and November etc.)

Quite agree Dave.

As we all know these are very uncertain times and companies much larger than Satmap are going to the wall, and they [Satmap ] don't manufacture essentials like bread and milk.

I do honestly fear for their future if they persist in givng dates for things that are missed time after time with no explanation.

Writing a regular blog is NOT difficult,NOT expensive and NOT particularly time consuming especially if your companies future depends on it.There are companies like Garmin catching up in the OS mapping stakes ( a long way to go IMOH though ) and they won't stand still.

Satmap if you read this, you have an excellent product, excellent after sales service just please engage with your customer base as silence breeds suspicion.

Absolutely agree Ian. An out-of-date web site is often a sure sign that a company is struggling. I find it remarkable that a company such as Satmap can show such contempt for its customer base, especially in the current economic climate. How much time does it take to keep a web iste like theirs up-to-date? 5 minutes a day - maybe 10. If they can't be bothered to do that - and they are a high-tech company - you wonder how long they will go on for. Such a good product too.

To be fair they have been updating their site - a bit. They briefly posted that orders were being delayed by the snow. And the stuff about the route planner simply says 'Coming Soon' - so they haven't missed a published date. Having said which, yes, I'd like things to happen, too.

The point about the route planner date was that Satmap had told some forum members that it was simply the OS holding up the forum and perhaps if we e-mailed the OS things would speed up.When some of us did e-mail they replied that it was virtually all sewn up and the on-line mapping would be ready for the 9th February.

But Ian, wasn't it OS rather than Satmap who promised that specific date? It may well be that Satmap are preparing it as part of a more major revamp. Or maybe not - I have no inside knowledge!

But Satmap gave the distinct impression that the planner was "sitting on the shelf" all ready to go when the OS gave the say so.They have been saying it was ready since last October or so.

This discussion reinforces my earlier point that Satmap should keep us informed. If it is the OS once again dragging their collective feet OK,then tell us.

Not entirely correct, they did give the impression it was ready to go once but that was it. OS then leaked a date which I'm sure Satmap weren't best pleased about.

If there are issues relating t licensing or whatever that are delaying release do you think Satmap 'outing' OS would help matters.

Satmap are guilty of no more than letting slip that the product might be imminent. I'm sure they did so fully believing that to be the case but we have no idea what has caused the delay and until it is launched I can't see it being prudent on their part to start blaming one party or another.
