When playing music through the fm transmitter, the music pauses every time a voice instruction is played through the sat nav.
Can anybody tell me how to stop it pausing the music every time it reads an instruction, as it is quite annoying at times.

It seems to mention in the manual it is possible to turn off the music pausing, but makes no mention of how to actually do it?

Thanks Very Happy

For some strange reason you CANNOT stop it pausing on the FM output, but you can on the Bluetooth output.
Worth lodging a complaint to Tomtom support. The more who moan about it, the more likely it is to get changed.

ah ok then thanks, I thought it was just me.

Is there no way to allow it by modifying any files or any other unofficial ways?

Not that we've found... Sad

I got so fed up with it I gave my car radio to my wife and got the cheapest one with Bluetooth (about £85 Sony). Works brilliantly, and the quality is much better than FM too.

BT is the way to go, but make sure your unit works with the deck BEFORE you purchase it, the TomTom can be rather "picky" at which units it will work with.
As for the FM issue please do complain to TomTom about this, the more people that shout about the issue the faster something might be done to resolve this. While you are at it ask them to put the nav instructions via the FM TX when music is playing and an option not to pause the music when using FM - Mike

This is one of the most annoying things that TomTom have done - to stop this facility of transmitting the nav instructions via FM. I know it's because of its so-called illegality in some countries, but surely there is some way of doing it and staying legal.

What's the difference in playing music via FM and giving voice instructions the same way?

The difference is the music is deemed to be continuous, but the navigation instructions are not.
Intermittent signals (leaving an empty carrier wave) is what has been outlawed.
But let's not get into it here, when the OP's question is about something different, which TT *can* sort out.

The original discussion for the FM legality decision is HERE.

Stupid of me Rolling Eyes I knew all that but I get carried away sometimes. Yes, the OP's question is something that needs sorting. Do TomTom listen?

Thanks everyone for all the replies, I'll send an email to TomTom.
Bluetooth may not be an option as the vehicle is not owned by me, although i will find out if this is possible.
Just seems completely illogical they they would allow the choice for bluetooth but not FM.
