And you have to pay £14.99 for the paper-based Good Beer Guide (which includes a whole load more description & information about the pubs).

If you think this is expesive, I'd recommend that you don't look at getting Garmin's Good Pub Guide POI (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=28219), as that retails for nearly £15.

Many thanks indeed for the offer re Navigon, Alex. I'm still struggling but have asked the POI company (navigating.de) about the precise format/limitations.

When I've got something positive, I'll post it in this thread

Thanks again.

Guys
I have just downloaded this file and converted it in gps babel and then via satsyn exported it as a poi into satmap and it shows all of the 4000 pubs although the file is a little large and it may be better to split it up into areas your going to visit and just download the ones u want if u want to have the full details how to do it let me know

I got a reply from SatMap today:
Quote:
I gather you are interested in creating POIs for the Active10. You can use the GPX standard as it is supported by SatSYNC, our tool for transferring routes and POIs from a PC to the Active10 and vice versa. I have a attached a gpx file containing two POIs. The name of the POI is displayed on the map when the user is close to that location and is truncated if it is longer than about 16 characters. The description can be as long as you like; it appears when a user clicks on the POI on the map or goes to the Active10 POI Menu ... Show Details. The current version of SatSYNC doesn't work well with POIs (e.g., it won't give a POI category name for the example I've provided), but we'll be releasing a new version of SatSYNC early next month which will address this among many other issues. As for custom POI icons, this is something we are investigating and is likely to be available as part of a multimedia POI creator which is currently under development.

Unfortunately they forgot to attach the example GPX file, but I've replied requesting it.

Good work. I'm wondering whether you could be kind enough to send a copy of the file to the GBG POI support email address (gbgpoi AT camra DOT org DOT uk) so that I can sanity-check what I produce, please? Thanks in advance.

I have now got the CAMRA data successfully on the Navigon 8110 (for the POI-Warner V7 software). My email to Alex Presland was
Quote:
I have finally loaded the Navman.asc file you kindly sent me onto my Navigon 8110 and ALL the name/address/telephone number information is now displayed correctly in the POIWarner application (a navigating.de product) installed on my satnav.

This was after I had eventually managed to strip out the commas in the description field in the ascii file. So basically there is a choice between

- CAMRA producing a description-field-comma-free asc file for direct loading (if you produce one and want me to try it out I'll be pleased to); or

- users purchasing a Garmin.csv or Navman.asc version of the CAMRA file and converting the data themselves. As I indicated, I found the Garmin file much quicker and easier to convert using POIEdit after editing out the commas, but this probably depends on what facilities different people use for data conversions.

Interesting...last year I asked CAMRA about a POI list, (for my TT at the time,) and they replied that basically drink and driving don't go together, (obviously,) and they would not be issuing such a list...work that one out.
