TT Traffic, best PAYG subscription please?

Hi

Am having so much difficulty using my N95 with my TT GO 930 for the GPRS based Traffic subscription that I am now considering using an old handset that performs well with the 430.

Can anyone advise the cheapest PAYG option for GPRS subscription.

I use Orange PAYG.
It self configures and seems to be fairly inexpensive.

I have used Orange PAYG and I am not sure of the cost but it is reliable. 02 PAYG when I last tried it did not give proper GPRS access.

I bought a United Mobile PAYG data SIM to use in Europe but in France it was worse than useless as it had too few roaming partners where I could get a signal (Dpt 62).

At the moment I am mainly using the BT Broadband Anywhere phone inclusive tariff GPRS which is about 10MB per month for £5 (ish) on top of my broadband charges. I can go to "unlimited" GPRS for about another £5 per month.

I have my preferences set to update every 5 minutes.

Mally1957 gave some figures which are useful. See 9th January which cost over £1. Cost depends on usage, so you might like to consider the alternative of buying an RDS-TMC antenna. If you had usage like Mally's 9th January, the RDS-TMC would pay for itself in less than a month.

If you are running up GPRS charges of £1 a day then I would consider switching to a low user tariff with the GPRS bolt on that most networks offer. I use T-Mobile and can hammer the phone for mobile internet, e-mail and Traffic data for just £7,50 per month.

It all depends upon how much time you intend to be using the traffic service, and whether the advantages of mobile internet are of use to you, but running up £20+ GPRS charges shouldn't be necessary as a contracted phone would work out considerably cheaper.

If you do intend sticking with the PAYG solution then avoid O2 at all costs, their PAYG service doesn't work with the TomTom system as MrT mentioned in an earlier post - Mike

I get TomTom traffic through my Virgin mobile. I’m on the Pay as you Go tarriff. My traffic updates are not restricted to specified intervals, so I get the updates as and when they’re available. 1hour 45 min commute round the M25 costs me between 8 – 15p for the updates.

£5 a month for unlimited Data, I use a Nokia 95 on PAYG and for £5 a month you get data for your Traffic connection, and also you can connect the phone to laptop and use it for surfing

(Also great at home as an emergency if your broadband goes down!)

Best £5 a month I have spent.

OK, got a Orange PAYG sim, had to call Uzbekistan call centre (I think I spoke to Borat's sister) to get the settings configured, but it's all working well and everything is in order. Have used today on journey of around 150 miles, stopping and starting, and so far it hasn't registered any charge at all!
