I don't know if anybody can help me, my trusty Garmin nuvi 310 seems to be having a problem - I've just downloaded the latest cameras & a few new POIs, uploaded them via the latest Garmin POI Loader, all seemed fine then I noticed I'd got two sets of me POIs, one on the nuvi & one on the SD card so removed the card & re ran the POI Loader to update POIs/Cameras on the nuvi but the unit refuses to boot up now and just hangs at the "LoadingMaps..." screen. I've left it for an hour, I reset several times, POI Loader & Garmin WebUpdater can't find the unit... ...any suggestions.
FWIW I have a Garmin eTrex that used to stop working randomly in use. I was very impressed with the help and service Garmin gave me - ended with me returning the unit for a swap.

I understand there is a problem with certain nuvi models. I'm considering purchasing one, but this puts me off slightly.
It should be said "There used to be a problem with some nuvi models, but Garmin fixed it". As long as you use WebUpdater to update the software on your nuvi to the latest version, you should not suffer the problem of a lockup with too many POI files (it's the number of different categories you load, not the total number of POIs).
If you are paranoid, the best solution is to always load the POIs onto the SD card, and when you then turn on the unit, select to not copy them onto the main unit.
gotham_man: if you search back you'll find lots of people going through your problem a few years back, unfortunately the best option is to contact Garmin for them to send you the recovery files for your specific Nuvi model, which will allow you to get going again. Please then use WebUpdater to upgrade the software before loading lots of POI files again.
There's some more information on this problem listed on the POI download page, including, if I remember correctly, a link to the best way to resolve the problem _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums.
