I was wondering if the 540 will allow hands-free calling from a Blackberry Pearl (8120) and/or SMS reading?

The official list at TomTom's web site doesn't even list the 8120.

Could be awhile.......

Just tried to reconnect my phone after I factory reset the 940 so I can use the 3 mth trail of LIVE and twice now after entering the enter 0000 on the phone when doing the pairing its crashes the phone.

I fell like a beta tester for tomtom at the moment Crying or Very sad

Update.

Ok working. I had to clear all my paired devices and then it stopped crashing my phone. Connected fine, I just made a test hands free call with no problems. I did have SMS reading on my 910 but cant remember if that was with my old BB Pearl not the 8120.

I can do handsfree calling (although I don't seem to get a good incoming volume), but can't read sms. (Curve 8320 and TT Go 920)

Similar situation with my Blackberry Bold 9000, although you can adjust the volume on the 540.

My experience with BlackBerry and TomTom Handsfree is limited since I have a parrot carkit. I currently have a PAYG orange handset in the boot which I use via BlueTooth to get traffic. I decided on this setup after I couldn't pair the 720 and my BB 8820. However I had more success after an OS upgrade on the BlackBerry. I could pair the two and it would pick up traffic data. However, even using the settings on the 720 I couldn't get Tom Tom to release my phone from HandsFree to let me use the BlackBerry for Traffic Data to the 720 and simultaneously use Handsfree to the Parrot so I gave up and went back to the PAYG option. I have a Bold now and haven't tried it simply because I just know that there'll be an issue somewhere and I'll gain something and lose something at the same time (which seems to be TomTom's idea of progress in the last 18months).

So in short all I can offer as input is to make sure you have the latest OS on you BlackBerry before you begin. At least then you'll only be screaming at one device :-)

I find the BlackBerry phones to generally be very good at pairing up and behaving with devices I use. However, because BlackBerry are very security conscious (big corporates etc) you'll find them very picky for functions such as sending files and reading text over bluetooth.

Plenty of info on updating the OS over at http://forums.crackberry.com/
