From reading a few other threads, it seems there is a wide variety of prices being quoted/charged for the same service.

They advertise from £7.95 / €9.95 per quarter, plus the upgrade to latest maps (v8.10) at +- 50% discount.

So please list your model, current map version, upgrade + quarterly prices here so we can see what they are not telling us.

Go 720 Western Europe v7.05 - £39.80 + £9.95/qtr

This was answered in another thread by Mike. I asked why there was such differences and it appears that the price you pay depends on what map you have at the time, the later the map the cheaper your updates.

That is what I would have expected, but on another thread discussing problems purchasing the update service, people with the same device/maps were quoted different prices.

I don't mind paying for a service, but I do mind paying over the odds. I hope this will quantify the reals prices being quoted to users (seen that TomTom chose not to provide a full price list - that I can find)

I think also it depends on when you last updated the map.
If i done it say 10 months ago and you did it 4 months ago then i believe you would get it cheaper. It would have been nice for TomTom to clarify their reasoning though.
Imagine them sitting there sniggering at us lot having a whinge about "eez got it cheaper than me"

The figure to get your present map up-to-date is on a sliding scale, ranging from free if your map is less than 3 months old to a 50% discount of the full price if it is over a year old.

The details Darren posted were basically:

Less than 3 months old - update is free
Between 3 and 6 months old - 85% discount
6-9 months old - 75% discount
9-12 months old - 60% discount
over 12 months old - 50% discount

The prices people will have been mentioning will obviously depend on the territory covered too.

Are you still thinking that there have been different quotes?

Any chance of a link?

Thanks for the info on the upgrade scales. That makes sense.

Actually on this forum, but not that useful (yet), but here it is: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=71034

I would go back in and test the purchase, but £80 is the good chunk of a GO 740 Live, especially after the post-launch price cuts that came so quickly to the 720 and 730.

Thanks for the link.
In that topic:
"Bruce Hall's" £9.95/Qtr quote was for a Western Europe map.

"Lyngarth's" quote was for £12.95/Qtr but he doesn't specify which map he has.

My quote is also fo £12.95/Qtr, but I have a Western and Central Europe map, which you would expect to cost more per Qtr.

Do you think that might be it?

My W&CE was £9.95/Qtr, but then my Maps are for the 910 and are currently 725.

But I'm still Confused

@Clay, you could purchase a single map update for your device for the price of £49:95 or purchase via the update scheme where you get 4 map updates over the next 12 months for just £5:65 more, the choice is yours but a single map update purchase starts to look costly when viewed this way - Mike

Mike ive seen that you can get a one time update for £49, but going by the tomtom home software i cant make out what this offer for £55.60 is, theres two items in the basket @ £27.80 each.

How do you get the 4 map updates for the next 12 months for just £5:65 ?

Single Map Update = £49.xx

Update Service = £55.xx
(includes map update plus 4 more during the next 12 months)

So you can pay £49 for 1 update or for just £5 odd more you get an additional 4 further updates over the next year

I have a TT 910 that I bought in the States in August last year. I have version 660 . When connecting to Home 2.4 I am only offered the chance to buy Western and Central Europe maps for £74.99. No options are displayed to upgrade at discount and subscribe to updates.

I feel abandoned and if indeed I have to pay 75 quid I shall start looking at alternatives.
