Excel file.

OK, first I think this is the right place for this.

In the next week of so I have got to go and do some orienteering. I will be starting off from a point and given a bearing and a distance to my next way point, and so on. So a GPS is no good as I do not know my grid that I am going to. Does anyone know of a excel sheet that I can run on my phone, that when I put in the bearing and distance will give me the grid that I am going to ( as I will know where I am at the start).

Please note that I will be using mills not degrease.

I have a N95, but it should not matter witch, as long as it can run excel on it.

It matters quite a lot as pocket Excel is very different to the PC application, if you had a PPC based device then it might have been possible to do something, but the Nok is not something I am familiar with - Mike

Have a look at this page It has a code example to do what you want (towards bottom of page).

Note that at very small distances then there will be errors due to imprecise knowledge of the radius of the earth at that point. Of course - if you happen to know the value at the location you are at - it will be pretty accurate Very Happy

Orienteering must have changed since I last did it (20 years ago). Then you started by being given an OS map of the area and at the start you had to look at the master map and carefully copy the locations of each of the control points - then, armed with nothing more than a compass, off you ran to collect the "stamps" that proved you had found the locations. A bit like geocaching on a small scale - but done at very high speed.
