I am going to scan in 4 A3 os maps for me use. How easy is it to go from one map to another? Can I plan a route on on my PDA? how much of the map will i see on the screen (1:50,000 scale)?

Thanks.

It should be fine.

Being OS maps - it's easy to get accurate calibration - but do make sure that the maps are perfectly flat - you may want to iron them first to get rid of any sharp creases. Of course you are breaking the OS copyright in doing this - but I guess you know this already Laughing

Just a tip I found useful. After scanning - reduce the number of colors to 4 bits (16 colors). It significantly reduces the size of the subsequent map file. Don't bother trying to combine maps - OZiE will chose the next map as you move into it. This means that you don't need to scan large maps all at one time - do them in sensible chunks.

How much you see on your PDA will depend on resolution of screen, zoom level chosen - but it should be adequate for walking/cycling purposes.

You can select maps fairly easily and you can add waypoints etc - so route planning can be done - but to be honest it's much easier to do this on the PC version as you do see much more of the map.

I would download the trials of both products and see how you get on with a small map of an area you know well - so you can check out that your process is correct. The usual gotcha is forgetting to set the datum and projection of the map correctly when calibrating.
