It is all very well saying that the new x40's will not replace the x30's but if you go to tomtom website and click on netherlands as the country, then click on products you will see that there is only the new models 940, 740 and 630 listed no sign of the 930 and 730. And if you click on the original products there is only the x20's on there no x30's. Why would they not have the x30's listed as products if they are not planning for the x40's to replace the x30's

Dabs have now reduced their in-stock time to 5-7 days. Of course this matches the 31st Oct date they sent to me in their email, and doesn't mean that it won't get put back again.

Interestingly, they now say on their page that the LIVE subscription will cost £7.99 per month. Either it wasn't there before, or I just plain didn't notice it. Using google to convert, this is within 5p of 10 euro, so apparently not robbing us Brits on exchange, if true.

Amazon have altered there date to 7th November 2008.

Cancelled my pre-order now and bought an Archos Media player instead.

In regards to the price, I take the description of what dabs displays very lightly. In my experience it is commonly incorrect. You are right in that the price was not their before. Additionally, the description was not as elaborate. The bit about the live services appears to be newly added.

I asked halfords whats up with all the delays and who's pushing the dates back.. Originally I thought it was the suppliers just playing the guessing game, but they said it's tomtom that keeps pushing the dates back.

From that, I deduce their must be some last minute bug fixes. Fair enough the beta testing is still ongoing (apparently?) but that doesn't mean they can't release it while tests continue. If the tests are not showing any problems, and the ETA's are being pushed back ever so slightly, then they must be very near completion.. Factor in the x40 has now been launched in the Netherlands, it suggests their are no more hardware/software fixes to make.

I just wish we had a firm release date. I'm a bit more confident on the new release date. I think and am hoping it's the final date. I can't wait to get my hands on the x40, I keep checking different sites on a daily basis. Judging by some of the other posts, I'm glad it's not just me!

Come on TomTom hurry up already!

Yeah, I kinda figure that since everybody is doing the same thing that it's TT themselves delaying.

I'm not so sure, I wouldn't call 2 weeks at a time "ever so slightly" - amazon only moved a week, but dabs, dixons et al, and halfords all jumped by 2 weeks (although the dates were different to begin with).

If tests are not complete, then that itself is a reason for not releasing. For a popular, off-the-shelf item, it can be a complete PR nightmare to release before testing is complete. The only thing worse than waiting, is to get something that doesn't work

Agreed, this is the thing that frustates me most. The grand irony is that, TT should know all about this kind of frustration - they are promising more accurate time of arrival information, to beat the main frustration of being in a traffic jam - i.e. know knowing what time you are going to get there - only to tell us that they don't know what time it will get here!! Rolling Eyes

If they said 1 month, I could wait, but to say "oh, just another few days/weeks" every few days/weeks makes it worse.

Just checked my email, and in fact on Friday, Dabs sent me yet another change in lead time email (4th now - in the space of 9 days) saying Nov 3rd.

Amazon UK are now reporting that the 540 is due to be released 7th November now. Halfords and a few other retailers are also stating the 7th of November so who knows. (no, seriously, who knows? Laughing )

Halfords say 5th of Nov. But they'll probably change it too..

I'm not sure who to buy from atm.

I'm thinking dabs, but I really want this unit ASAP. Same day it comes out. So I was thinking I just pay the extra £30 and get it from the shops. But then £30 seems like a bit of money to waste..

If only I had the luxury of patience!

There's an article today on 'The Register' saying that prices have been set for the x40 range and that they have been released in the UK
HERE

How true is anybody's guess, but The Reg is normally quite good.

It does say exclusive on the article, so maybe tomtom leaked some info to them.

It could instead be regarding the beta tests, and referring to it as now completed and tomtom has started the distribution process for the stores ready in about a weeks time..

I find it odd the tomtom site makes not mention of it yet..

I'm hopeful...

Is there nowhere you can order it, and then either pick it up or get it delivered on release day.

I have used Amazon to do this even though it was with Game Software so not quite on the same level as a big new toy to pay with.

The DABS one is £60 cheaper than on Amazon as well.

On DABS it also mentions that the HD service thingy after the 3 months free will be £7.99.

Handtec do next working day for £6.95 + VAT, and are selling the 940 for £395

Good luck in your search!!

Beat me to it - there isn't anything in the press releases section either, suggesting that the Reg hacks have been at the mercury again! Stop it!

(having said that, you're right, they usually are on the ball)

Found this one too, which says launch date confirmed as "November" (honestly, even Cdr Data wouldn't be that precise about it Rolling Eyes )

http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/18771/19795/view.phtml

They also suggest that they will be "live at the UK launch" further suggesting that the launch hasn't actually happend yet as the Reg claim.
