You will only get maps specific to the area you purchase the device in, for UK this will mean:
540 UK & ROI
740 Western Europe
940 Western & Central Europe + North America
The above assumes the new x40 range follow the same map installations as previous devices, you can of course add Aussy and NZ maps but they will cost additional cash over and above the initial purchase price, the additional maps will work on the unit once purchased, downloaded and activated using TomTom Home - Mike |

According to the TomTom web site, if the 930 was bought in Oz for example you get maps of Australia, New Zealand, Europe, US and Canada. The 940 is labelled worldwide, so that got me wondering. |

The the web site is wrong, that amount of mapping would never fit on the available internal flash memory the device is equipped with - Mike |

Navteq already have their 'Transport' maps for manufacturers offering specific HGV solutions and TeleAtlas have launched a similar offering.
These will be aimed at dedicated hardware solutions though, whilst we have tried to encourage them to offer such maps as an option for consumer units, the software needs extra features to use them and it seems that most companies think a dedicated unit is the best way forward, either for optimum use or higher profits! _________________ Darren Griffin |

I would take any such adverts with a large pinch of salt. The x40's are available in Holland with UK due Q4 08 and France/Germany to follow. Other countries have not yet even been announced let alone scheduled so claims such as Amazon makes are baseless and most likely wild guesses based on previous units and a lack of understanding of the 'connected' nature of the x40's. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Just a quick reminder as to what happened with the 930 when they launched. People purchased them from Pixmania, the units they got were destined for other European countries so certain funtionality didn't work in this country.
If you want one of the x40 range once they are out wait until you can purchase it from a UK based retailer - Mike |

Good point Mike. Each x40 is hardware locked to the SIM that is within it. If you buy an x40 the LIVE services will only work in the country it is intended for. _________________ Darren Griffin |

how much do you think it will cost to update from the go 530 t to the new 540 when it comes out |

Let's be reasonable now! Such comments are rather silly and don't change the fact that TomTom have been far better at releasing updates and upgrades for their devices than any other manufacturer.
Obviously where hardware prevents a feature being rolled out then it isn't going to happen but if you really want then LIVE services then most of them are available via a connected mobile anyway. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm sure the Beta test members have them but NDA's will preclude them from confirming that fact.

I very much doubt it. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Why would you say that...Amazon seem fairly good.
When would you expect a street date on sale ?

Because I don't think a release in 14 days is realistic, I might be wrong but let's see on the 14th. I don't have any info on a release date but I would guess it would be sometime between the end of Oct and mid Nov. _________________ Darren Griffin |
