I have legitimate 6.75 Western Europe on my Ipaq and would like to transfer to my N95. I have successfully copied the map via TomTom Home but the software is not compatible. Where can I get a legitimate copy of the software suitable for the N95 without purchasing more maps?

Regretfully, you do not say what version of the software you were running.

However, you will need to acquire the TTN6 for Symbian Software. This is the only version that will run on the N95. It will also not support the N95's average quality built-in GPS, you will still need a Bluetooth GPS to use TTN6. There has been no development work on the Symbian S60R3 version for over two years and TT now have Navigator 8 out and still we see no news on whether they are intending to release the newer software.

Once TTN6 is installed, install the maps, start TTN6 and then "register" the maps.

I have also tried the Garmin product, but this is not as good as TTN6. Nokia Maps is available, but without the use of SpeedCams databases is fairly usless in Britain to be honest. I also found the routing software so what flakier than the other two products.

Hope that helps?
Simon

Version 6.03 on my iPaq HP2210. My question is where do I obtain the legitimate TTN6 Symbian software?

Ok.. If you have the full Navigator product from TomTom i.e. not a shipped version with the Ipaq, it is on the DVD.

All you will need to do is plug the memory card into a card reader or link the phone to the PC using Nokia Data Suite as Mass Storage and when you run TT Home, it should spot the card/phone and you can install the Symbian version.

Have they? AFAIK they have not even released TT Navigator 7 yet for general use - only on some contract HTC Touch Diamonds in one or two European countries.

Navigator 8 .......... now that IS a dream ..... or nightmare.

The Netherlands ...... according to a post I read on one of these forums a few days ago. Not absolutely certain hence the "one or two" rather than "two".

Is that OK? Wink

Yes, so was I, but now I am not so sure.

When I logged onto TT Home with the HTC attached and my (legit) TT6 recognised I asked to look at the manual for the software and it ended up pointing me to the manual for TT7. That caused a lot of confusion because there was no way of knowing it was for TT7 and I thought I was missing a load of features from what I thought TT6 should have! Confusion reigned not helped at all by TT "support" (by god they have a liberal interpretation of that word) being their usual unhelpful self.

So I know exactly what TT7 has to offer and, frankly, I was distinctly underwhelmed - still no text to speech for example despite it being on their PNAs for ages. So only buy it for the ability to get up to date maps would be my suggestion.

At the moment I am getting tempted by McGuider - £40 for software and up to date maps of most of Europe. My guess is TT7, if it ever comes out for general realease, will be a lot more expensive.

Why not go for something like McGuider, it works with the N95 internal GPS, it has more up to date maps than TTN6, its very well priced, supports custom POI's and gets good reviews.
Tomtom has had its day IMHO

According to the Tele Atlas shop and McGuider, it will not run on the N95 8GB,

However - found this about the N95 8GB - see point 6. http://mcguider.thesedays.com/en/faq.html#3

And McGuider can't route you to any of your contacts. You have to look up the postcode in Contacts then enter it manually in to McGuider (I checked this with McG this afternoon).
Hardly seamless, and a show-stopper as far as I'm concerned.
