Tom Tom tmc aerial

I have just purchased a tom tom one XL and was going to buy the antenna for receiving the tmc messages, but there seems to be 2 types. There is one in Currys for £29.99, but looks like it plugs into the USB port on the unit, and another that plugs into the jack socket next to the usb connector. Which one do I get.. How does the unit charge if the tmc aerial is plugged into the usb port.

Do you have a link to the one that plugs in to the USB port, I didn't think TomTom had released that one as yet - if they have then it is much better and is the one to go for - Mike

The existing car charger cable plugs in to a socket on the body of the newer receiver, it much better than the earlier units from my tests, the only downside is when you de-power the charger socket it will turn off the receiver which will loose the RDS-TMC signal, it soon picks it up again though.
I would go for the one in your link, it is a far better receiver - Mike

Thanx for the advice, that's the one I will go for and at £29.95 at Currys isn't too bad a deal

TT still show the "old" one for x10/x20/x30 etc and this new one only for ONE 30 series (new) and XL 30 series (new).

Very odd if they've been producing earlier series with two possible TMC inputs.

And why can't I get the url link coloured. It's either coloured or a link but both together won't work.

There is nothing wrong with the older unit as shown in the link, but the newer device is better from my experiance - Mike

Thanks for sorting out the url Mike. Now all I have to do is to remember how to do it in future.

I may be up for a TMC unit. Having used my Traffic Sub in France I was shocked at the size of my mobile phone bill when I got home. I believe they do work in Europe.

The cost of using a Mobile whilst abroad for GPRS is very costly and something that should be avoided, the RDS-TMC will work very well in Europe, it works quite well in the UK these days as well - Mike

Lucky I limited the amount I used it in France. Even worse for us in the Channel Islands though, our bills are also high when we visit the UK.

I'll definately write off what I spent on the Traffic sub and won't use it again.

Get an Orange PAYG sim card for use in the UK, with £10 loaded it should go quite some way and work out far cheaper than using your main subscription based phone with no limit - Mike

If the PNA has a mini USB socket the newer unit will work with it, i.e. One Third Edition, One XL, Go x20 and Go x30 - it won't work with the x10 range - Mike
