Problems updating and registeringGarmin Topo GB

Is it just a problem with my computer only or have others had a problem with their copy of the Mapsource Topo GB DVD.
The software installed properly, but I cannot unlock it. Each time I try, the error message says it cannot connect to the internet, yet obviously it is connected. (I have no problem updating my Garmin Nuvi traffic warnings).
Also, I have tried updating the software. Each time I run the update it downloads the file but won't unzip it, saying that the file is incomplete. I am running Vista Ultimate on an AMD dual core, with 4GB ram and 500 GB HDD.

Have you the 'unlock codes?

Have you setup an Account -- 'My Garmin' on the Garmin website?
Have you registered the unit -- 'My Garmin' on the Garmin website?
