Backing Up before a Rom Upgrade???

I have an Ipaq 2210 with TT2 on a Compact Flash, some doc's on the inbuilt drive, and some calendar dates etc.

Can I back this up somehow before doing a rom upgrade and then put it back on after, obviously the TT2 will beo k on the CF card, but then it must put some files in windows etc?

I think the consensus of opinion is that the rom ugrade could update registry settings which a restore could then overwrite.

Backup data files, then after rom update re-install the apps and copy the data files back.
