My TMC-TDS receiver works well with my TT 730 on the first floor of my home (as it does with my older TT One XL) and I always seem to get a reliable signal. Now I'm aware that traffic conditions change rapidly, therefore traffic info will get out of date. But some traffic information, for example, lane closures and major incidents will presumably persist for a number of hours or days.

So would there be any logic in capturing traffic at home before departure so that at least partial information was available during the journey for the worst problems?

Apart from all the messing around there is nothing wrong with trying to capture RDS-TMC data before you set off, although I have started to receive information in the car within a few minutes of setting off these days. Previously I hardly ever saw a green ball until I had travelled a good 25 miles so something has improved in my area - Mike

if you look at traffic england it will give you an idea of lane closures before you plan your route with tomtom, as it is a highways site it even has the overhead messages displayed if you go in close enough to seperate them, you will see what i mean if you look at the site here

Before I started a journey, I'd hook up my 730T to HOME and plan the route, at the same time I'd update the traffic info via home and compaire it to the Highways agencies sites etc and route accordingly.

However, the last few times I've hooked it up to HOME it wouldn't let me update the info, and simply returned a message of "please connect phone" etc.

Have TT stopped this feature or am I being stupid and doing something wrong?
