Welcome to the forums Tim.
C'mon (EDIT Andy), be gentle, firts post.
I searched for bridge in the keyword and got 718 hits and none of the first 30 were obviously about 'Low Bridges' except this thread which was top of the list.
I very rarely find what I am looking for using search, perhaps it's because of the rather daunting array of options that I don't fully understand on the search page. IMHO it's much easier to ask a question than try to understand the nuances of the search page or find what you are looking for in the results.

I'm with M8TJT here. Searching invariably brings up loads, sometimes hundreds, of hits and rarely are any of the relevant to your search. _________________ TT Go Essential |

Further to my last,
I tried 'low AND bridge', this brought up a more valid list, however one suggestion in this list was to type 'low bridge poi' into the search page, this brought up 14750 (yes thats right fourteen thousand odd hits). How useful was that piece of advice???
Even if you put the search phrase in quotes, the engine still ORs the individual words instead of treating the words as single joined up phrase.
So how do you get an exact match for a phrase?
EDIT:-
I have a feeling that I am dragging this OT

A search didn't show up that much relevant stuff for me either.
I did, however, manage to find this link which may be useful. _________________ Andy

I thought I was!
All I did was point the questioner to the POI forum and say he should get good results if he searches there because they've been asked for before. What's wrong with that?

How are you doing it then?
If you search on "ANY term" you might well get that many, as it will be searching for "low", OR "bridge" OR "poi". Surely you realise that?
I just did that exact search with "search for ALL terms" selected and even across the entire forum it only returned 62 matches.
Running the search in just the 'TomTom' or the 'POI' sections gave 7 and 6 "hits" respectively, and the very first one has a link to some low bridge POI files.
'Being nice'.....the first topic the search finds is THIS ONE and following the links in thare ends you up at THIS ONE which has at lears 5 or 6 links to low bridge POIs. |

Andy.
Ok Andy you win on a technicality
The point that I was trying to make was that the search page, although it seems that it will find what you want it to if you know how to use it, is pretty complicated when compared with say Google.
The advice given in the post of my example was to just type the phrase and did not include ant further instructions on how to use the rest of the input parameters, hence the 14,000 hits. I suppose what I should do is to learn how to use it properly.
As an aside, try typing 'low bridge poi' (without the quotes) into google and see what you get. A rather different result. Ok 37,000 hits, but the first couple of pages at least contains good info including links to PGPSW on the subject and most of the hits have got the words 'low bridge' in them. Whether these would answer the OP's question is debatable though.
I am definately not trying to flame or pick an argument, but for the busy user who cannot spare the time (or bother) to learn the search page on our site, in my opinion it tends not to produce the goods when used as a simple search engine. |

As I think Anita said recently, helping to point someone to where stuff is usually involves a "search" on our part first (it's not ALL in our heads, I wish it was!). Usually I DO make the search myself and post the links, but if I'm short on time, sometimes I'll just give people a nudge to try a little "self help"!
Maybe someone should do a "beginners' guide to using the search button", as I guess it is a bit of a black art deciding on the best search words to use.
But you'll find using the "search for ALL terms" option makes all the difference. |

You can find a low bridge poi on my web site HERE (opens in a new window).
Its a couple of years since I last updated it, but it may be useful until you can find an up-to-date version. |

Andy_P wrote Quote: | But you'll find using the "search for ALL terms" option makes all the difference | Thanks Andy, I've often looked at that but never understood what it meant. Does it mean the same as "Find Exact Phrase"? I suppose I should have given it a try but it just seemed meaningless to me. _________________ TT Go Essential |
