Memory-Map is pleased to announce a free upgrade for existing Memory-Map 2004 OS Edition users! Customers with Memory-Map 2003 and previous versions can purchase a discounted upgrade by clicking here.

Just some of the new features in this update include:

3D Fly Through – 3D-View™ takes off with the all new Fly mode. Just right click on a Route or Track and you'll be transported to 3D-View and automatically flown along your path. When used with aerial photography the results are breathtaking.

Relief Shading – Print maps with the new Relief Shading options and you'll see 3D terrain on an accurate printed map.

User icons - Import your own icons into Memory-Map and use them anywhere on your maps. Coupled with Memory-Map's improved Overlay management feature, the possibilities are endless!

In an unprecidented move the upgrade for MM2004 is free despite there being additional functionality implemented which is normally prevented by the OS licensing restrictions.

If any of you are coming this Sunday (28th March) I will have it up and running for a demo.

This is the way to go - free revision changes I mean.

Maps do change quite frequently and I think suppliers need to show a commitment to their clients and users.

Well done MM - somehow I feel this site may have been influential in MM strategy = well done pocketgps.

If, in the full picture of things, MM realise the marvellous contributions from one BBB they may wish to forward said BBB a copy of their marvellous product I am sure that the aforementioned BBB would be only too happy to receive it :-)

BBB,

It is not the maps that have changed, just the application.

I wont get into the restrictions that the OS place on software developers suffice to say that in theory you cannot add functionality to an existing program without charging for the maps again.

Here is one very confused man, despite a phonecall to Memory-Map about it.

I have a 2003 version of Navigator, and a more recent 2004 OS edition, with OS mapping for Regions 1-6, 3D, etc.

I, too, received an email today, citing:
"Memory-Map is pleased to announce a free upgrade for existing Memory-Map 2004 OS Edition users!".

However, I was confused when following the instructions to load the program, it told me my version was 4.0.1, and the latest release was 4.2.1, click to download here etc.
http://www.memory-map.com/download_mmnav.htm

then told me that this version was NOT compatible with OS mapping, with the further explanation that:
http://www.memory-map.com/memory-map_2004_ordnance_survey_maps.htm
"For the OS edition, free bug-fix releases will be available, but these will not include any new features. The OS requires us to pay additional royalties on the maps if we add new features to our software. "

So I phoned MM, only to be told not to worry, my 2004 OS version WILL indeed be updated. Duly comforted, I downloaded and installed it, to find that all I have is an updated version to Navigator which will NOT load my OS mapping from the 2004 edition. So I'm stuffed, and conclude that MM's claim of offering a free upgrade to 2004 OS, and your reporting of it, is false.

I would be VERY pleased if someone told me I was an idiot and where I was going wrong .....

I will be coming to the pub on Sunday and will tell MM what I think of them in person :-)

OK, I've managed to answer my own question/ frustration.

The answer is to ignore MM's instructions to:

"How to upgrade? - Make sure you have your Internet connection open and then use the Web > Check for updates menu command in Memory-Map to update your software."

and instead simply go to:
http://www.memory-map.co.uk/dl_mm_navigator.htm

which I came across by aimlessly wandering around their website.

Hope this helps someone avoid what I've just wasted a lot of time on.

Thanks DA, you probably saved me a load of hassle.

Having only just bought the software I'm very pleased to get this upgrade FOC. Lots of little changes that make life easier so I would have been miffed to have missed out. Then there are the 3D fly throughs, not sure how much use it really is but I love it.

Yep, this happened to me last night when I tried the upgrade.

I was busy all day today so I didnt have a chance to sort it out. I just thought I had meade a mistake somewhere. I uninstalled "Navigator" and then when through the update process again and it worked fine.

I assume that the had the link to the International version, but managed to change it to the correct one before I tried the second time.

Good news is that I didnt need to re-register, and all now works well.

I have got everything ready to demo on sunday if anyone is interested. Hopefully I can capture some tracks as well.

Hi Privateer - is is even worse that that! Or perhaps I should say:

Hello eathlings this is BBB. Message especially for earthling with the handle of Privateer.

Yes I am familiar with this mysterious land of green.

One is still recovering from being transported to what can only be described as a parallel universe. It was (is?) a world in which the A1 is or was the E13 until it became the E17 (if that was just north of the place that used to be called Sheffield it would make poetic sense). A place where the M62 no longer exists but the E20 follows its path almost centimetre by centimetre.

I will not explain - this is far stronger than jetlag - paralleling I mean

I used the web update function from within MM 2004 and the resultant download applied faultlessly.

Now at last I have been able to sort out all my 'props' into an ordered arrangement.

This to me is the best news in what is a most welcome free upgrade.

Thanks, MM!

Talk about frustrating trying to upgrade......I was totally confused and tearing my hiar out until the penny dropped. There are in fact two Memory Map sites www.memory-map.co.uk and www.memory-map.com
Trouble is if you are not keeping an eye on your address bar you don't realise you are being switched between the two. You get different downloads from the different sites. One only gives you 4.0.1
the other the latest upgrade which CANNOT be used with 2004 OS maps.

So I wasted hours trying to upgrade, eventually realising I was wasting my time cos I only use MM on OS 1:50K maps.

Nomad,

After doing the same myself (see earlier in thread) I thought I'd be helpful and explain my difficulties to MM, so they could be aware when others had similar difficulty. Rather than apologising for their upgrade instructions being duff, as I had been clear to explain, apparently it was my fault for getting onto the .com website instead of .co.uk.

While I'm posting I'll add some questions I had for their technical support which is drastically inhibiting my use of MM since the upgrade. Unfortunately I have had no reply after 3 days

Dave

1) The overlay files are not backwards compatible, preventing sharing of overlays (even just a single route, hardly cutting edge option stuff) with family and friends with older versions. One receives an "Unknown object" error. This is a major problem for me; any way around it?

2) I bought the Professional licence so I could add overlay files containing many, many marks/ waypoints. For example, speed camera database, geocache locations, camping sites, etc. Unfortunately obviously the online help documentation has not kept up with the software and the CSV format description is out of date. Merely reading in a CSV file with marks/waypoints having a positive radius (for a proximity alarm) no longer delivers a proximity alarm! The speed camera positions instead have "Hide circle" and no alarm. Just as well I haven't yet accrued points on my licence since upgrading ..... :-(

Just what is the CSV format I now have to use in v4.2.1?

3) Unfortunately I cannot be more specific at this early stage, but after manipulating overlay files the latest MM version crashes, whereas the earlier versions were very robust.

Has this updated version been rushed out for the Outdoor Show?
