The folks at 10 Downing Street are deciding if to stop funding for the Jodrell Bank Observatory and all its related projects. I for one think this is wrong.

It's just over 6 miles as the crow flies (about 15 miles by bike) from where I live and when it's pointing with the dish towards us it makes a lovely view against the backdrop of the Peak District hills. I remember visiting it on a school trip (must have been 45+ years ago). It's still very impressive. Unfortunately modern living (mobile phones et al) have made the environment much more electronically noisy - reducing the effectiveness of some of their work.
