I've downloaded some of the free POI files, e.g. Loch_Fyne Restaurants and I find that the telephone numbers displayed are incorrect and don't relate to anything that I've downloaded. I've emailed Navman UK support about this and sent them the file and their response is as follows:-

Quote:
I tried to install the files and I had the same problem .I tried to modify the file changing the tel no.There is a formula to insert the tel.no.and I don't know that formula .I'll have a look into it to see where the problems might be.Give us some time .You can also contact the provider to solve the problems , it might be the simplest solution .

Any advice/ help anyone?

Navman use .asc format which looks like this:

-0.61786, 51.18798, "6'9 - D5421 Westbrook Rd"

you could try a line like this that's from a .csv format:

-0.24959,51.58572,"HR Owen London North","0845 00 00 000 "

I have removed the correct phone for common sense reasons.

But does display correctly on my units that use the .csv format.

not sure what would happen if you tried the .csv file and just changed the file type from .csv to .asc

Have noticed there is a space between the , and the next item in the .asc format.

Thanks for the response. I've checked back in Navdesk and when loading Custom POI files it will only look for type csv, there are no options at all. I'll try your suggestion though of ensuring that there is a space before the next field.

Hi

I've deleted all the custom POIs and done a hard reset then I've checked just one of the files and put a space between evey comma and double quote and reinstalled just the one file. No difference at all I'm afraid. In fact for the POI that I checked before it's still giving the same wrong phone number.

I also checked the manual for the S90i and it specifically states that custom POIs must be in csv format.

Anyone any further thoughts?

Regards

Paul

This may or may not help.

When I tried to download the Navman speed camera database, it downloads in asv format.

As you say the S90i only recognises CSV.

Try downloading a file intended for a different type unit that uses csv.

Thanks for helping but unfortunately I only get two options for downloading the free POIs and that is TomTom and Other (CSV).

Why not try loading your .csv files in to Excel or similar and check the DATA is correct first, then export from excel (in .csv) and try re-loading it

Download "Other (CSV)" into a folder somewhere. I have created one called Navman/Speed Cameras.

When you start to download you will see a drop down box asking if you want to save or open the file. Either option is fine but for the Navman it is probably best only to download the mobile cameras as the fixed cameras are pretty static and unlikely to change.

Asuming you do this.

When the winzip/win RAR dialogue box opens select the option to extract the individual files you want, and then select the folder /subfolder that you want them to go into.

Once done open NavDesk, and select the files.

You will need to set up a new POI folder within NavDesk, named as you wish but Speed Cameras (Mobile) or similar is probably best.

Make sure that you also download a .wav file for the speed cameras. This can be found within the Navman satnav unit files within POI. You can also record whatever sound you want of course and download that, or you could just replace the existing .wav file with a new one using the same name.

Make sure you do a backup of your files first though just in case anything goes adrift.

The files I have downloaded are the free Pocket GPS World POIs. It's not the validity of the data that's in question though. When I said that the wrong phone numbers are being displayed, what I meant is that it's not displaying the phone number that appears in the csv file. Funnily enough the dialling code is correct though.

Can someone with an S series try loading one of the free POI files and see if the phone numbers displayed are the same as the ones in the csv file please? My S90i has the service pack applied so it would be interesting to know if it is specific to either of these two things.

I've still heard nothing else from Navman support so I'll give them a jog as well.

Thanks for all your efforts

Paul
