Ignition powered bluetooth GPS device

Hi all,

I have a BT338 and would like to have it permenantly wired and hidden away in the car, can anyone tell me if thats possible.

My concerns are that it won't switch on\off with the ignition so it'll always be on, and if I hide I won't be able to get a good signal (can i use an external aerial?).

If the BT338 isn't best for the job what is?

If your BT338 has a hardware ON/OFF switch then simply remove the battery and connect the charge cable to an ignition controlled power feed?

Ah, yes, thats a very good way of looking at it, unfortunately it doesn't have that type of switch Sad

Can anyone reccomend a good receiver that does work like that.

Great thanks, do you know if I can plug an external aerial into it? will I need to if I bury it under the dash?

It does have an external antenna socket but I'd suggest you experimented first, these devices are very sensitive and you may find it works fine without. I have used similar devices in glove-boxes and central arm rests with no issues as far as reception.

I have my Blue-tooth GPS device in the boot plugged in all the time (RoyalTek GPS Mini X-Treme) I never switch it off. been like that for about 18 months and never been a problem
I suppose it helps that there's a 12v socket in the boot of my car (VW Golf)

old 1(holux 230) played up sometimes but switching it off for a minute or two cleared the problem for weeks.
