When I worked for BMW we had adverts for self-washing cars, where the paint exuded detergent in the rain, an aerodynamic sunroof that could be left open in the rain, and a device called the UWAT which sat on the fromt bumper and read and translated foreign road signs.
You had to write for details to Hugh Felfrit, IIRC.
People who did write in used to get a leather-bound road atlas or somesuch.
