A Laptop in a car is not a very good idea IMHO, if you hit the brakes where will end up, securing such a beast in place will not be easy, for connection to the 236 you can use a cable, but it needs to be of a specific type that contains a circuit to alter the voltage, if I were you I would use Bluetooth for communication it is much easier and a small BT USB Dongle will only cost around £15 - Mike

Indeed it is small but it still weighs in at around 1KG so will need to be held down for safety in a vehicle, my other concern is the OS, running Linux it is going to be rather difficult to find any mainstream GPS related mapping software that will work on the device - Mike

Hi All,

Got one of these too, in my Civic it will sit securely on the 'shelf' in front of the radio display, so no problems there.

It'll probably fall off a lot less than the sucky-cup thing holding my PDA Smile

I was wondering about satnav software too, is there anyhting with tomtom-like features for Windows XP?

Probably going to go for the bluetooth connection, although if you're handy with a soldering iron there is a possibility to mount the GPS receiver inside the eee Smile

BTW, you can now get the EEE with WinXP preinstalled and a bigger built in SSD.

A couple of software packages to consider are Directions-Navigator and the good old AutoRoute - Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for those. From what I know of AutoRoute it shows the map with a marker of where you are, does the latest version do any voice navigation ?

The pc-directions thing looks good though. Anyone have any experience of this ?

I guess it will offer spoken guidance from the above, I have never used either package in a car though as my laptop is too large to be safe in a vehicle. - Mike
