Hi

New to the forum, hope someone can help me.

I have a tomtom one v2 and the loudspeaker is intermittently cutting out.

I have managed to diagnose its defiantly the speaker unit but can't find anywhere to buy a replacement.

i have tried cpc and rs components but no luck.

Its a rectangular speaker 40mm x 20mm x 5mm

Not sure on the wattage of impedance its unmarked.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Give www.satnav-shop.com a look. They can handle most things with regard to TomToms.

Thanks guys.

I sent them an email requesting a price, to which they responded very quickly. It would cost £40 inc. fitting and return post.

Unfortunately they wont just supply the spare part which would have been ideal.

If i get really stuck I might have to take them up but for now I'm going to keep trying to source a speaker and fit it myself.

£40 isn't a bad price considering it includes labour and return postage but as I'm happy to carry out the work myself (its very simple... if you can find a speaker) and the part would probably only cost a couple of pounds, I'm going to hold out for now.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try Alan Butcher Components Ltd, they do a miniture speaker 20 x 40 x 5.8 ref MGT 20 40462 see pic and spec here
Code:
http://www.abcomponents.co.uk/c2/uploads/abc%20speaker%20section1.pdf
they also do a 20mm Dia one if it will fit, just found this straight away by doing a google search for miniture speakers.

Thank you so much for the advice. I had spend ages scouring google, i don't know how I missed that one!

Have just got off the phone to Alan Butcher Components, they where extremely helpful.

The speaker in the online catalogue had been discontinued but they had one of nearly identical specifications.

They are posting it out to me, so I should be able to tell you if its been successful or not next week.

Glad to help, and even more thanks for the acknowledgement, its nice to know and for others to also know that an answer hopefully solves a problem. in too many cases Ops ask a question get answers and then dont respond consequently nobody ever knows whether it helped or not.

If you want an alternative place check this link... looks like it's used in of all things model trains and if this isnt the one then it's pretty darn close looking at the measurements to my V1!

Happy to report that the speaker arrived today... it's slightly different in height to the picture on their site and is metal framed rather than plastic.. other than that it fitted like a glove into the rubber surround and just for good measure to stop it rattling (although it was quite firmly secured) I wedged a small cube of foam in between it and the PCB when shutting the back.
The volume is the same, nice and loud, but without the distortion and intermittent crackling I was getting before!
So to summarise, brilliant replacement part, 5 mins of soldering and you've got a fix.
Total cost was 6.10 included P+P and VAT. Brilliant!

Dave

PS I'm not affiliated with this place at all, just did what the poster above said and googled some more Smile
