I have the Tomtom Bluetooth and HP2210 kit. It seems to me that it should be possible to make a "performance meter" capable of doing 0-60, 0-100 and 1/4 mile times from this. I realize the receiver only gets position updates once a second, but I believe that Evo magazine use some sort of GPS-based performance meter.

Seems a bit silly with all this technology to shell out another couple of hundred notes for an AP-22 (which is an inertial meter). OTOH, maybe I could add inertial aiding to the GPS ;)

don't waste your time trying to abuse GPS for what it's not designed. Go with your inertial stuff.

VBOx use GPS for such measurements but they utilise receivers with much higher sensitivity to obtain the readings (and at a high cost!), see http://www.racelogic.co.uk/2003/vbox/ .

A consumer grade GPS Receiver cannot do this and so any measurements obtained would be wildly innacurate and of little use.

Hey, the VBOX box says DGPS on it, so I guess it's differential...
