Navigon announced a new range of SatNav systems at CeBIT today. Claiming to deliver high end functionality at mid range pricing USD $299. The press release and product details I have been given are for the US market, but I thought it useful to publish them in anticipation of getting the European version later.

The devices are 4.3 inch widescreen format with voice instruction delivered using text to speech. The software is the latest version of the Navigon software featuring Lane Assistance, Reality View and a new DirectHelp feature providing details of emergency facilities in your vicinity.

The Navigon 2100 Max has been launched with the new FreshMaps service which allows up to 12 map updates over a 3 year period.

CeBIT, Hannover, GERMANY and CHICAGO, March 4, 2008 — NAVIGON, the fastest growing brand in GPS navigation, today unveiled the NAVIGON 2100 max and NAVIGON 2120 max personal navigation devices (PNDs) at CeBIT 2008, the world's most comprehensive showcase of digital technology. The North American products earn their name by incorporating ‘wow’ features found only on high-end devices. They are the latest additions to NAVIGON’s award-winning and successful 2100 series line.

Also new is DirectHelp™, a feature that pinpoints a user’s location and provides instant links to nearby services such as hospitals, pharmacies, and roadside assistance.

Significantly, the 2100 max series devices launch in concert with NAVIGON’s groundbreaking FreshMaps service. FreshMaps provides up to 12 map and POI updates in three years. Updates have been field-tested and validated by NAVTEQ, the leading digital map provider. I have just managed to get hold of the European version of the Navigon Press release for the new Navigon 2100 max SatNav systems. The european devices are priced at €299 or £175.

Quote:
NAVIGON 2110 max: impressive performance at an impressive price

Stylish, smart and speedy: fitted with the latest software technology, the new NAVIGON 2110 max proves that up-to-date, state-of-the-art navigation really is affordable. The new route planner is set to hit the European market in April 2008 at a price of 229 Euro

Hamburg, 4 March 2008 - Always thinking one junction ahead: that is just one of many things that the new NAVIGON 2110 max is capable of that sets it apart from conventional navigation equipment. The enhanced Lane Assistant Pro tells you which lane you should be in well ahead of the next junction. "The new clear brilliant display provides easy orientation at a glance", explains Jörn Watzke, Vice President for Product Line Management at NAVIGON. "So you can concentrate fully on the traffic, never having to worry about needing to move from the inside lane to the outside lane just before the junction appears." The Lane Assistant Pro is not the only feature that makes the journey from A to B a safer one: Reality View Pro, TMC congestion avoidance and optimised destination input with large character fields and intelligent help for entering details ensure perfect clarity and simple route planning. Jörn Watzke cuts to the chase, stating that it offers "impressive performance at an impressive price".

There is one particular reason why the NAVIGON 2110 is capable of such high performance: NAVIGON has incorporated brand new software technology in this new piece of equipment. "The 2110 max is one of the fastest and most accurate navigators of its kind", confirms Jörn Watzke. "And with functions such as Lane Assistant Pro and Reality View Pro, it is well ahead of its time as regards scope of functionality."

Whereas the Lane Assistant Pro ensures better orientation at junctions in towns and rural areas, Reality View Pro comes into its own by providing clear displays of motorway junctions and exits. The 4.3-inch display in 16:9 format provides a realistic representation.

It is not just the clarity of route display that draws everyone's eyes to the NAVIGON 2110 max. Behind its chic, slim lacquered frame, a 400 MHz processor with 64 MB ROM and 64 MB RAM ensures speedy navigation. The battery life is also very good, even on longer journeys, lasting up to three hours. If that is not long enough, the charging cable with integrated TMC antenna will provide the NAVIGON 2110 max with the necessary power boost.

You can update the NAVIGON 2110 max at any time via the NAVIGON Fresh update portal. For example, the exact pronunciation of street names with text-to-speech, and traffic congestion warnings for England, Finland and France with Pay TMC. You can therefore choose precisely which navigation functions you really need to upgrade.

The NAVIGON 2110 max is available in two versions: the Europe variant NAVIGON 2110 max provides orientation assistance in 38 countries and costs 259 euro. The regional variant of the NAVIGON 2100 max is on the market for 229 euro.
