This might sound crazy, but...

would it help if you sent out a message to the newsletter distribution list?

A greater proportion of members would see your message as opposed to just people who read 'off topic', for something which is 'on topic' to PGPSW, although difficult to categorise

I already have in bold red text as the opening paragraph instructions not to reply to the email address the newsletter comes from but still they ignore it. We also get asked to changes email addresses for subscribed users. We can't, all this has to be done by the user and the links are in the newsletter itself!

Short of banging their heads against a wall I doubt the message would get through to some Laughing

What about sending the newsletter from a different address, maybe do_no_replyAT... this might be a it more obvious to the few who abuse it

Darren, I know that you're a fellow Mac user - could this software be of any use?

These e-notifications vary from simple email notifications about product updates or new product releases to more complex newsletters and invoices.

Thanks but I don't have the time or the set-up to manage 100,000 users details and queue a 100,000 distribution email Smile

My ISP would pull the plug if I tried!

but you should surely get POP and SMTP servers with the PGPSW domain, so IF you it was of interest, outgoing messages would be independent of your ISP

It's probably easiest to continue using the third party, but it might just have been of interest

Like so many other things, they make it sound so easy, but it's not until you try it when you find out.

The simplest ploy might be to use a 'do_not_reply' or 'noreply' type address, so that there's a rather subtle hint in the address to stop people using it

Even better could be "do_not_reply_to_this_address_- _it_will_not_be_read_- _didnt_you_read_the_big_red_sentence etc AT ..." Sometimes a long name appearing on screen makes people actually read it - may not happen with a short noreply one.

I'm willing to give it some time if it's of any interest, but if it's not likely to be pursued then I won't bother

Since posting this morning I have added 15 more rules to the filter to grab more of the auto responder posts and bin them.

Have a look at the SMTP headers in your incoming emails. By convention, they should have "Precedence: Bulk" if it was an auto responder. But then again, so many developers just ignore the RFCs.... Mad

Failing that, perhaps there is another header there that you can reliably filter on, like mail-agent or some such.

Good luck, that problem has been around for at least 17 years that I can remember....
