TomTom2 Route calculation for lorries

Hello
Does anyone know how to alter the preffered speeds in tomtom2 so that when calculating a route it has a heavy bias towards motorways and "A" roads, I want to avoid "B" roads and little country lanes....

Ive tried altering the speeds(im not bothered about it messing up the estimated time of arrival)but it tends to increase the time it takes to work the route out to the point of not being practical.

there have been a few threads in this forum about that already. Try the search.

The easiest thing is to set the local roads to a very lw speed (5 mph or so) and leave the rest as is. That way only the calculation around start and destination will take longer.

There are other programs out there that handle HGV routing better, for example CoPilot, or even PocketMap Navigator (but the latter one is only US based). Routis has a "Reduced turns" routing also.

I did search the forums but i coundnt find anything about avoiding b roads ect..

Ive thought about getting co pilot..and read the reviews, but is it right that when your not approaching a junction/turn ect .. it switches to a safety screen. I prefer to see a map of where i am at all times.

Whats your preference tomtom2 or co pilot(the new one)

As a geek I understand your preference to see maps at all times, but when it comes to business (and safety) your eyes should be on the road and not on the screen.

For businesses I recommend CoPilot, for leisure navigators TomTom.

When your driving something thats got a 60foot trailer you need to know before you get to a junction whats around you ,and what your other options are...should a pocket pc be planning to send u down a totally unsuitable road. Safety screens might be ok for car drivers who are unlikely to get stuck should the route not be suitable but class 1 drivers need all the info they can get. Especially if youve had to hit the "roadblock" option eg tomtom2 in the middle of traffic with nowhere to pull over and check the route.Not only that but you also need to be aware of tight bends and low bridges.Blindly following a blue safety screen is an accident waiting to happen.

fair points... You can use the "CoPilot" mode in CoPilot - that one shows more map...

If you just drive from A to B then there's no advantage in using CoPilot. But if you are in the delivery business and need routes with multiple waypoints and route optimisation - that's where CoPilot shines.

Thanks for the info....its a pity you cant download a demo of these programs so you could try before u buy.

You cant even sell them on because of the online registration(already have b/t gps)

just use the standard calcutation with the default speed stettins as tomtom is baiast (spelling) to main roads any way it works fine for me in my truck just mentally adjust the arrival time in your head and it should be fine Laughing

usually i just kepp going and avoid the turn if dont lilke the look of a road and sometimes it will throw you a cuve ball and send you a weird route but on the whole tomtoms fine

lbendlin.....Yes, it is perfect for delivery/courier drivers. But only just, I was in the centre on London, in an ELWB Merc Sprinter, when Co-Pilot tried to send me down through a 'No Entry' Sign......I use the map display in the big towns and cities and have had no problems. I have even convinced a fellow driver to purchase Co-Pilot, and he's happy aswell.
But as for HGV drivers, yes, you need all the help you can get....JESB....Keep On Truckin'

lutz with regard to keeping your eyes on the road as your higher up you can anticipate better as you have a better veiw of whats happening around you so it easy to glance the sceen also things happen a litle slower
