Hi

I have recently acquired Garmin Quest II.

As recommended (as a beginer) I have loaded the 'single file' database onto it but I have the following queries:

1) What is the difference between the 3 options in terms of what I would see/hear when I approach a speed camera?

2) Which option is considered the best in terms of performance/ coverage - am I right in assuming it is the speed zoned?

2) You say the 'single file' is best for GPS's with that can use only a limited no. of POI's categories - is the Quest II one of these and how many POI's categories does a system need to be able to use for the speed zoned option?

In a nutshell I suppose I am a bit confused as to why there are three options that on the face of it seem to all do the same thing and would like to ensure I am using best option that my satnav can handle.

Many thanks

Welcome

With "single" file, you get a warning that there is a camera.
With "by type", you get a warning that there is a Gatso or a Mobile.
With "speed zoned", you get a warning that there is a 30MPH Gatso or a 70MPH Mobile.

The speed zoned is best in terms of giving you most information about the camera ahead. I don't know enough about your Quest to tell you which file it will support.

Sadly this isn't strictly true. I use the Consolidated database on my i3 and it tells me type and speed.

The reason for the different databases depends on what you want and how your unit handles the database information. Some units have limits to the numbers of POIs categories they can store so the single file is favoured, by some, as it only uses one category. For most this isn't a problem though.

With the Single File you get warned there is a camera. It's then up to your unit on how it displays any further info from the database on type and speed.

With the Consolidated By Type you get warned there is a camera. The icon shows you the camera type. It's then up to your unit on how it displays any further info from the database on speed. (on my i3 the icon tells you the type and the banner across the top of the screen tells you the camera type and speed.)

With Speed Zoned the icon tells you the speed. It's then up to your unit on how it displays any further info from the database on type.

In contrast the TomTom work as follows:

Single File: Shows a gatso icon. no other info

Consolidated: shows relevent icon (Gatso, Mobile, Redlight etc) but no other info

Speed Zoned: shows camera type and speed

For your Garmin Quest 2 it appears you can use any of these and you use POILoader to installed them. Instructions here
