|
|
Whist trying to be clever and playing about with postcodes , cameras etc I have managed to delete the TT pre-installed POIs , and have committed the ultimate sin by not backing up first.
I have spoken to TT and they tell me that I will have to send it for repair as they are unable / unwilling to make the file available to me through TT HOME.
The POIs loaded from this site including speed cameras are still available but none of TT preloaded stuff.
I now have Western Europe v710.1561 maps loaded , and do have original backup of GB map prior to upgrade to Western Europe, so presumably the GB pre-installed POIs are in there somewhere but I don't know which file.
If anyone can point me to the right file in GB backup then this would be good enough for me for the time being as I am reluctant to send for repair. |

The POI files are all in a single file called POI.dat try searching the PC's hard drive, the Western Europe POI.dat file is around 54MB in size, the latest UK only file is less than 2MB - Mike |

Thanks Mike for instant reply.
However I have searched all drives on comp for POI.dat files and nothing is showing,so I must have made a good job of deleting them, even if I didn't know what I was doing.
It looks as if I may have to resort to repair route in due course. |

Anyway thanks for your help Mike, sorry to have been so stupid, but hopefully I will learn from my mistake.
I'll have to bite the bullet and send for repair at some stage, unless some kind soul is able to send me a copy of the missing files.
Cheers |

Hang on....
That list you made are of FOLDERS, not files.
Look inside the "map" folder and there should be a .cab file
(Assuming you have set Windows Explorer to SHOW the three letters at the end of every file. If not its TOOLS / FOLDER OPTIONS / VIEW Tab /
In the "Advanced settings" section:-
TICK "Show hidden files and folders" and
UN-TICK "Hide extensions for known file types")
If you find the cab file, come back for further instructions. |

Andy thanks for putting me right , but I have now looked in all folders/files on computer without finding the .cab files needed.
I obviously did a good job at deleting them.
When/if I do decide to send for "repair" by TT has anyone any experience of timescale that this involves with them. |

Pretty good in my limited experience (about 10-12 days). Obviously on the forums you will tend to hear of the nightmares where something ahs gone wrong and it has taken weeks (or months, before someone jumps in!!)
Just out of interest, what WAS in your "Home/Downloads/map folder? |

Bingo!!
See it hiding there? "poi.dat" is in the zip archive.
Right click on 'Western_Europe_1gb.zip' and it should extract out all the individual files (may take a little while, it's big, and make sure you have plenty of room on your PC for it). |

Neat, we got there in the end - once you have the POI.dat file back where it should be on the device Please do a full back up of the unit to your PC using Windows Explorer (see FAQ #1 on This Page if unsure) |

Andy ,this was looking so good,
BUT you wont believe this I'm sure but this particular poi.dat file within Western_Europe.zip relates to a completely unrelated programme on the computer, Music Label where I keep record of MP3 files etc
So I'm back to square one I think.
I sometimes wonder how I got involved with computers, it's getting all too much for me.
Time for tea and a wad (shows my age I'm sure) |
