As I said it doesn't bother me, but it might have had a bearing. Very Happy

I remember that in the olden days the favicon wasn't loaded until you bookmarked a site. If you are getting the wrong icon then try creating a new bookmark maybe....

Clearing the cache, internet history and stuff, in Internet Options did the trick.

If it's of any interest, I've found a favicon tool which allows scrolling text, so you could have PocketGPSWorld scrolling in addition to an icon for anybody who has difficulty reading the 16x16 pixel icon

Do you have a link? I'm not keen on scrolling stuff, too distracting but I'd like to take a looksie?

radio times used to have one for a short while. i believe it's an animated gif that you link to with some slightly different code for the 'type' of file.

a google for 'animated favicon' will pull up plenty of links

Darren, I've stayed out of this topic on purpose but have to chip in and say Please don't!.

It's basically using an animated gif file that will irritate many of your loyal customers by moving in the address bar and tabs (in Firefox anyway - IE will ignore it). It uses rel="icon" so you can have both set up.

As the site title is shown in every tab and bookmark (if the user doesn't change it), the icon is just an extra.

Actually, I guess I'm allowed to say it's not the best with the 'P' being at the left but I haven't worked out how to improve it. Laughing

Don't worry, I'm conscious of how annoying anything that scrolls flashes or otherwise moves can be so won't be employing it, just interested in how it was achieved.

Here are my entries for the PGPSW new icon thingy competition.

The most recognisable reference to PGPS.

&

Ordinary looking logo.

If you want the gif I'll send it.

Please bear in mind these are .jpgs and the gifs are far cleaner.

how did the favicon get onto my machine in the first place???

this line in the html code:

Code:
{LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/favicon.ico"}

makes it grab the file automatically.

MaFt

I have gone to the above address and seen the icon with my own eyes now, and a damn fine thing of wonder it is.
It's just that I don't get that version on either of my machines.
I must admit though, I cannot get really extracited about this one way or the other. Smile

Now I've been there and done that, I have the new and wondrous favicon in my address bar and IE7 tabs.
Autocracy rules OK. It's good, you can say things like "be reasonable - do it MY way" Rolling Eyes

Having read a few other posts in this thread, this was possibly not a good suggestion.

I guess it's a typical case of not being able to please everybody all of the time Crying or Very sad
