So long as you have a full backup via Explorer then there is little risk in trying. Most issues occur when a user has only a HOME update and the restore doesn't always work
I have a number of GO's and have never had an issue updating via HOME so it's not that common a problem albeit annoying when it does happen.
Backup once again to another folder as a precaution and all will be well _________________ Darren Griffin |

That's the best procedure, plug it in, create a folder on your PC and then using Explorer copy EVERYTHING from the Go to the folder you created. _________________ Darren Griffin |

As long as you have a backup of the device as it was when it came out of the box you can 99.9% of the time recover from anything except a hardware failure. _________________ Darren Griffin |

if you bring up the my computer page and then connect your TT to you PC with the USB cable you will see what removable drive it is and click that icon and that should bring up the root of your TT. If it is slow try closing other apps you are running and see if that helps. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

Most PCs will display the Drive Letter with TomTom as the Drive Name. So as you found out G: is right for you.
F: was slow because Windows was searching for the Disk/Media in that Drive and trying to work out what it was. In the end it would have come up with an error message.
You have done it correctly.
It is best to only download, and change, one thing at a time. That way you can check to see if it is working OK before going on to the next step.
If it's a Map, or a Software Upgrade, I always do another Backup if it's working OK, before moving on to the next one.
(That reminds me ..... must get rid of some of the older backups that are no longer usable.) _________________ Richard

You could download the speed cam one first as this takes seconds and then the maps one as it takes about 45 minutes if it is the GB one. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

If you have bought a UK map before, I think you will find the one it is offering you is the one you HAVE ALREADY. (Check the version number).
This is a known bug with Home - I am still offered an old v6 UK map for my old Go300 every time I connect my Go720 to Home.
As for the camera files, yes you are right, just untick everything except the UK ones, it's another "feature" that it doesn't remember your preferences and you have to do this every time. |
