OT but . . . . the Reds produce a very polished display with lots of precise manoeuvres but if you want to see passion and flair check out the Italian Frecce Tricolori team Wink

The Italians certainly put on a very impresive display (or is it just the colour of the smoke that makes them stand out) RAF are great with the Hawk aircraft though my personal favourite is the Russians with their heavy jets, The SU27 and derivatives are great but you cannot beat the AN124 - Mike

I will split the off topic aircraft part from this thread when I get home, as for ''heavy'' the next AN124 flight I have will be before Christmas at around 260 tons take off weight she is light, wait and see if it gets on the news for closing the A15 and causing road caos just South of Lincolnshire Wink - Mike

Edit once to add:

This is my idea of "Heavy Metal Aviation" in use, and something that will be happening again very soon, I might even take some time out to see what GPS based systems the "little" Russian aircraft has onboard!

The coaches at the rear of the jet are your normal 56 seater road going units to give you a scale of the picture.

I've seen both the Italians and Red Arrows and my vote goes with the Red Arrows.

Not just because of the show they put on, but if they're travelling to do a display (rather than doing a display where they're located at the time), you can set your watch by them - they are split-second perfect and there have been occasions when communications have broken down between the display team and commentary team and because it is so well drilled, the commentary team need only look at their watches to know when the display will start without a word being spoken to the display team.

You certainly wouldn't catch me flying a plain less than 6 feet away from another plane.

Mike, heavy metal often wins out - a Chinook can fly faster than an Apache and Apache pilots often get embarrassed because they have to ask Chinook pilots to slow down Laughing

well, if we're nit-picking:
Quote:
Red Arrows spokesman Rachel Huxford said: "During the show Red Arrows airmen fly at speeds of over 400mph and about 6ft apart, which requires immense skill and concentration"

...and to minimise the effects of air turbulence, they fly slightly above one another, but so that it looks like they're flying at the same height from the ground Wink

It's not for me thank you. As I told Mike the other day, if God meant us to fly we'd have beaks.

I keep telling you, Dennis, I'm a NORTHERNER and proud of it!! Laughing

..but surely, as wise as you are, you'll see that birds flap their wings to fly - beaks are for eating and chirping Wink

Here's the joke bit ....

Birds have beaks, have wings, fly.
If we had beaks, we'd have wings, we'd fly.

Hee, Hee.

Most Aaaaaaaaard Northerners know that by instinct. Hampshire's not north.

Bristol isn't north either

...but I wasn't born in Hampshire - a Lancastrian born and bred Wink

...and I knew exactly what you meant - and thought I'd do a bit of nit-picking, just like other people did with my earlier posts Wink

Facetious (apart from being my middle name) is apparently the only word in the English dictionary containing all of the vowels and in alphabetical order
