Hi all,
My Transalp will be in for a service next week and I want them to fit the battery cable for my TTR while they're at it. They haven't done one before and they're not keen to attempt it without some proper guidance. There's nothing much in the TTR manual, or the Tomtom website.
I know that several of you have done it because of all the posts you make about power problems! What's the best way to do it?

I have mine wired so that it's live all the time, but that's only because my Triumph has a connection ready for such a thing. A better way might be to wire it so that it's only live with the ignition on. Either way, don't forget an (easily accessible) inline fuse. 1A should be enough.

Crikey, not very encouraging when a dealer is unable to perform a simple accessory install like this!
It's a simple 12v fused feed. Preferably wired to an ignition controlled source but then again, you're hardly likely to leave your RIDER plugged in when the bike isn't being used so a straight fused connection to the battery might be just as suitable.

Thanks guys. I was wondering... can you safely leave the dock attached to the bike at all times - even when the TTR isn't there? I'm just wondering how weather-proof the dock is...

yes, it's designed to be left on and is fully weatherproofed.

yes, it's designed to be left on and is fully weatherproofed. |
Bear in mind that the dock could be easily stealable, depending on which mount option you use. Is it a RIDER or RIDER2?

It's a Rider 2. |
If you're using the Ram mount 4" arm then you can get a locking device which either covers or replaces the thumb wheel. It will add peace of mind and I'll be getting two (due to the way I've mounted mine) if I ever tour on the bike again. Generally the bike is parked in view or on secure land; with touring this isn't always an option.

I installed one of those little car safes in my top box and lashed the brided wire cable around the top of the right hand damper. It's just big enough to get the rider and dock in. |
