First, I apologise if this has been asked before.
I have updated to the new v7 software today and updated my maps to 710.
Problem I have is with the PocketGPS safety camera warnings sound files.
I have the OGG files in the same folder however when I go into manage POI then warn when near POI to setup the warning, I can select the distance then I'm asked if I want to use text to speech or sound file so I click on sound file and it jumps back to the distance.
Keep going round in a loop and I need to cancel it.
Is there any way round this guys n gals.
Off to Hull on Sat and I dont feel like giving my hard earned £££ to Humberside police. Darn cameras everywhere there.
Thanks in advance

If you're sure you have correctly installed the OGG files and that an OGG file exists in the same folder and with the same name then try a soft reset before configuring the alerts.
The soft reset button is well concealed underneath near the docking connector and you will need a paperclip or pin to insert into the hole and reset it. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have already done a soft reset.
The OGG files are the exact same name as the poi. I have 3 files for each speed, ie pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.poi, pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.bmp and pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.ogg
Everything worked OK with V6 but not with V7. I have since tried adding one poi with ogg to my partners tomtom 1 with v7 and again go round in circles.
Thanks again.

pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.poi this file should be pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.ov2 and not .poi your TT is looking for this file and can't find it. try and rename it and it should work.

I'm not sure that's the issue because if it was, he wouldn't get as far as being able to choose an alert _________________ Darren Griffin |

On the 910 after the Distance Setting I get a Screen with 4 Options; Full, or Brief, spoken warning, Sound Effect and Type in your own warning.
Sound Effect uses the OGG Files. _________________ Richard

That's a good point, the 710 doesn't have TTS? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Oldboy and Darren: it IS a 910, the "710" he mentioned was referring to the maps...
WeeHappyPixie:OK, I'm not sure why you are getting this, but here's a way round it.
It hasn't been announced yet as yet another way of doing the audio alerts, but it should work on a 910 with v7 software.
Take the ogg files OUT of the map folder
There should be a folder called "sounds" on the TomTom now.. put them in there instead (you can even leave them in a folder if you like.
Now, when you go to the "warn when near" set-up, select "sound effect" and scroll down. All the new ogg files should be there, and you can even click on each and listen to it before you choose it.
The only irritation at the moment is that the files get listed in a strange order, and because they are all named "PocketGPS....." the useful part of the names are not shown on screen, so you have to do a bit of digging to find the one you want.
Try it and see how it works for you. |

My 910 work just like Andy says, if you put all your oggs in the map folder then go to the warn when near as long as the ogg file is exactly the same name as the poi file and you have use sound effect set to yes or ticked it should work ok.

Yipeee.....
Thanks Andy, Worked like a charm. As you said though, bit of a nightmare getting right file due to length of filename so I created a little batch file to rename ann the ov2 files to Gatso_20 etc just to shorten them.
Well impressed with the new sounds folder. Thanks again...

its a bit odd that they don't work in the normal manner though - although there have been problems reported, it works for most other people.
just remember that the ogg files system is a little bugged at present, on selecting sound effect, with ogg file present youll get a screen saying "Is this the sound you want to use" - ALWAYS PRESS YES. hehe... No will lock the tomtom and require a reboot. |
