This morning, I saw a cyclist who'd gone to the other extreme - lit up like a Christmas tree...
...light on the back of his helmet, light on his backpack, light on his belt, light on each wrist
...how seasonal - but at least I could see him!!

So what's your score for December - so far! Couldn't agree more but is there any concession for OAPs who forget to turn off the fog lights..I'm not guilty of anything else

i've also had far too many near misses resulting in people's wing-mirrors being removed by my elbow... surprisingly none of them stopped so they must have known they were in the wrong...
on a slightly different note i also kicked a car once when it ran over my foot... i was on the pavement at the time!!!

I've not worked this month yet !! Been away for a week, so my score is zero....not that it's a numbers game anyway.
As for letting off people who 'forget' to turn off fog lamps. That all depends on the likelihood of it being true. You can appreciate that everyone we speak to has done whatever it is we have stopped them for, only the once. They were just unlucky to be stopped the first time they did it right !! Just like all drunk drivers say they have only had two pints.

I can understand that! I got pulled over in Bosnia this summer, midday & I could not understand what I was getting a £12 ticket for. The guy explained that I did not have my lights on (it's a legal requirement in the Balkans)...I was in a hire car and I was so sure that I did have them on that I got out to check them. My misunderstanding was that I had on my side lights whereas I should have had my main lights on.
I must have looked totally shocked, because even though he had written out the citation, he ripped it up!! Generous of him and he must have recognised the truth.

Ahh, so you forgot to turn them off? Ahh, so you just turned them on because you were driving through thick fog or snow then?

Hey, even Tommo has gone all Christmassy avatar. Nice one.
This week I have seen three separate cyclists WITH lights - mounted on their helmets, red rear light blinking brightly. BUT they were all carrying rucksacs on their backs which stuck up higher than the light - invisible from behind!!

I don't like your tone, young man.. You speak as if it is impossible for the big bad bah humbug Police Ossifer to be capable of getting in the Chrimbo spirit, hic.
My avatar isn't brilliant, but I'm not a photoshop type person, I can only add a few coloured pixels in MS Paint. I must say though that I am quite impressed by the efforts that some folk have gone to with theirs.

JC is a very entertaining prat, but he does say some sensible things occasionally. Fog lamps are virtually useless in all but the worst visibility.

True, but sometimes it's more important to be seen rather than see. Surely, it's better at dusk to be lit up rather than have no lights. (that's aside from the actual law)

Better to be lit up at dusk yes, but fog lights used when it isn't foggy, only cause undue dazzle and are illegal to use in those conditions. They are even worse when it is wet and simply reflect lots of glare and are therefore a hazzard to other motorists. It's only a thirty quid ticket, so if you can afford the costs and the hassle of being stopped, delayed etc, then carry on. If I see you (not that it's likely), you'll get a fine.

It’s good to be seen and good to see, but……….
Having fog lights on unless in extreme conditions is a total waste of time for the driver and a pain in the butt for the rest of us.
I have owned cars where I have never had conditions bad enough to ever use my fog lights; even in dense fog they often “bounce” light off the fog to be deemed useless.
Also I have “rant” about main beam lights.
Why do some drivers insist on even using them on busy motorways?
The other night I was having a leisurely drive home, when a car from behind closed in fast and decided to slow down behind me – with his/her main headlight beam on, I had no option to “toe it” just to get out of the way.

I just gradually ease off and see how slow I can get to before the prat decides to pull out and pass, then (if Tommo isn't watching) I pull up to him and let him try my full beam just for a few moments. Another wicked trick is to keep your foot on the accelerator and gently tap the brake with your other foot to set off your brake lights and give him pause for thought (when Tommo isn't watching).
