i found this brilliant site about a month ago, and since then due to the advise given have gone out and boughta PDA and a complete sat nav system.

Since then i have been in and out of these forums following threads and deemed loads of advice all good, and included updates POi's and patches on the PDA

However the inevitable is sure to happen sooner or later when i have to do a hard reset, and it could be days, weeks. or months away.

What i want to know is how do i store any of these threads or postings which are currently displayed just in case, as many contain valuable information, and i would hate the thought of trawling through these threads in time to come to get back up and running again with all the links i have already found and read and installed

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Pgchimp,

I refer to the various threads a lot. I tend to use the Search facility at the top of the page. You can search for author of thread or contents. If you can remember a keyword then you’re laughing as the search does work very well. Thumbs Up

Regards,

Hi Privateer

I would prefer to build up a folder/file so that i can put all the threads/posts in the one place and refer to them like a favourite folder

Hi Alan,

Sorry Embarassed , I forgot to add that:

Each thread has it’s own address, for example this one is:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6116

You can delete all of the remainder of the address as it’s information that’s unique to your current session and changes each time you log onto the website. Therefore you can save threads in the “favourites” of your web browser, or in a text file, etc. should you wish to.

Regards,

Yes, this is a very good idea if you want to keep track of certain information you find on the forum.

When I started using the forum a lot, I created a folder called 'GPS' in my 'Favourite' links on my web browser by going to 'Favourites', 'Organise Favourites' and 'Create Folder', and any useful pages of the forum that I come across (e.g. Points Of Interest is one that I look at regularly) I add to this folder.

If you save a lot of pages in your 'Favourites' folder and are worried about your PC losing this information somehow (e.g. if you got a virus or had to wipe your hard drive for any reason), your 'Favourites' file is stored in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\\Internet Favourites, so you could back this folder up onto a disk or CD if necessary.

... For some reason that post didn't come out correctly! Confused

In the second paragraph, the directory should have read: C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Internet Favourites.

I don't think it liked my use of punctuation around the text 'user name' the first time around! :| Obviously the directory won't actually say 'user name', but rather your name that you use to log onto Windows.

i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\Joe Bloggs\Internet Favourites

Thanks for all your help. I have taken the advise of Bo Peep and added the Forums threads to "My Favourite Folder" works a treat, AT least it will save me from trawling through miles and miles of threads should the inevitable happen

All i need to do is remember to update them when a new posting is added

Many thanks

Alan
