Hi,

I've just noticed on the TomTom site that v7 has been released for the TomTom Go's?

Is it planned to be released for the Pocket PC also? (if so, does anyone know when?)

It seems to be a free upgrade for the Go's - will it be free to upgrade from v6 to v7 for Pocket PC too?

I had to pay for my v3-v5 upgrade and then had to buy v6 when it came out as they didn't do an upgrade at the time.

Thanks

Ian

The actuall software you use an an application is free, you pay for the map. The way the upgrades typically work is to require a certain map version (or newer) to work fully with the new software.

All that said there is no mention of vs7 for PPC - time will tell if this becomes available, this version does very little extra that could/ would be used on a PDA though - Mike

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

So even on the Go's you've got to pay for the new maps to get the new version?

How much are those map upgrades normally?

Thanks

Ian

The desire for a new map is what generates the cost to the user, the new application will demand the new map for certain new functionality/ features to become available to the user.

For PDA use the latest map V675 will cost you £29:95 for the UK+ROI or £39:95 for a full Europe Map, the v710 maps for the devices that can use them are priced the same - Mike

Hi,

Isn't it better to wait for TTN7 rather than upgrade now and pay twice?

my pda wasn't on the compatible list for six but and works fine so wont be for 7........................

i wanted the major European road for a trip coming up so now seemed the right time to do it.

I will wait till Early adopters have tried nav 7 for pda if it ever comes

For PDA use I still like version 5,21 as this actually works with third party applications and offers only a few less minor features. I like the POICapture utility on my PDA so I have stuck with this version on one of my units, I do have TT6 on a PDA but it refuses to run the POICapture due to TomTom removing support for the SDK.
As for any hint of version 7 who knows, but I wouldn't hold my breath - Mike

That's what I was thinking. Will TomTom bother to bring out maps for v6 now v7 is out. The v7 map that's out now must be more upto date than the latest v6.

I agree with mikealder and I too still run Tomtom5.21 and there is nothing better. If a Tomtom7 does come out I doubt if it will get me from A to B any better then TT5.

A Tomtom 7 may tell me what the weather is doing in Abu Dhabi or the price of Bag Pipes in Edinburgh but the chances of it being an improvement as regards navigation are slim. No, I will stay with TT5.21, I cant fault it.

I would buy it if it had features like being able to move the stuff at the bottom to the top (I ride a motorcycle and you wouldn't have to look down as far). I did suggest this to them 18 months ago but I have not seen anything to suggest they listened to me.

But why would they drop support for PDA's with more phone devices coming on to the market with built in GPS ?
