They didn't teach me! But somebody once explained it to me - I can't use it though. I find it difficult to comprehend that 10 is .125 of Hex, .2 decimal, .25 octal, 1/6 of base 12 and .1 of base 20 (of which the only one I can't figure is Hex). Dear Heaven, PLEASE don't anybody take this any further - I have just plumbed the absolute depths of my grey matter!!

I waved (discreetly, which is to say, below window level) to every police car and police bike I saw north of the border this weekend, but none of them waved back - I suppose none of them was you. Don't they have a lot of speed cameras up your way? If it's not Gatsos it's Mobiles and if it's not Mobiles it's Specs!! I just hope they didn't overstress GO720 #5, it was shouting so often.

I work in Edinburgh. Did you come here ?? There are many cameras, you're right there Dennis. For the record, I don't agree with the siting of quite a few of them. The SPECS ones I agree with as they are either on roads with works ongoing or in the case of the A77, a road which has had loads of deaths relating to speed (coupled with the previously poor setup of the road).

Not really !!!, but I haven't had a wee chat with you regulars for a while, so it achieved something.

I missed Edinburgh this time - TomTom took me Glasgow, Dunblane, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen. Sadly, the outbound trip saw me getting there in the dark, but on the return, I enjoyed all the glorious countryside views. You really are a lucky bunch of foreigners with all that.

I don't know why "they" don't install Specs all over the place. That's the real answer if they want to cut speeding rather than get income. And for interest, I did 577 miles outbound in 10 hours 20 minutes (depart Yeovil 10:30am, arrive Aberdeen International 8:50pm), pretty much an average of 56mph, except there were three "comfort and stretch stops".

Ah ha, so you missed out Edinburgh and then went on to complain that the most famous traffic officer in Edinburgh refused to wave Confused

There must be logic in there somewhere, or is it getting lost in the translation from logic to binary to hex to white van man? Laughing

Even if you had gone to Edinburgh, I would have thought you'd have gone incognito instead of a rather obvious vehicle with "Dennis' Great Big Little White Van" plastered down the side, hence tommo would have had difficulty recognising you anyway...apart from the royal wave, of course Rolling Eyes

Perhaps we should all visit Edinburgh and take tommo shopping - a great day out and he'll be even more confused by the end of it Laughing Laughing

The cynical amongst us would suggest that you may have exceeded the speed limit in places, if you stopped three times but still averaged 55.8387096mph.

Perhaps Dennis does indeed know about binary and employs its various states to the throttle pedal then! (I doubt it though Cool ) - Mike

I knew somebody would come up with this. The stops were roughly 10 minutes each - counted the way F1 pitstops are - I reckon I lost 10 minutes slowing, walking, weeing, walking back and driving out again. I will confess that there were about three occasions when my speed (i.e. TomTom speed) went over 70 by as much as 2 or 3 mph, but as I was taking care to aim at 68/69 for the whole trip where permissible, they were only for mere moments (and I think even your 155mph jobby would forgive me that). The revision to 9hours, 50 minutes gives average of 58.6779859925376 mph, which reflects the fact that the vast majority of the mileage was Motorways and dual carriageways. Having gobbled fuel at the rate of 49.68 miles per gallon on the outbound trip, the return (reduced to 447 miles by having returned to Dundee for the overnight hotel) was done in 11 hours = 40.6363636363636 mph average, at 64.79 mpg. People get out of my way when they see me in their rear view mirrors! Evil or Very Mad (or should that read "get out of my way if they see me"?).

By the time they have seen you it is too late, you have taken those glasses off and "zapped" them out of the way.

You're better looking and they can't stand Dennis' reflection staring back at them in their mirrors Laughing

It really is amazing how oblivious some people are to what's going on around them.

If you weren't in such a rush with your blues and twos, would this constitute not driving with due care and attention?

The phrase was jocular. I don't suppose many people see me in their rear view mirrors for long enough to get out of my way - they're off up the road before they can recognise my grey hair!
