They should just put in a width restriction on the road to stop trucks going down there and be done with it....

I was going to suggest the same, then I realised many of these village roads are bus routes serving the very villages the problems occur.

There is no reason why any restriction should not have exceptions, such as the "no right turn except for Buses and Taxis".
This would be far simpler that this sign.
I have a suspicion that any driver who does not have satnav would assume that the warning didn't apply to them.

What happened to the signs that said simply...."Not suitable for heavy goods vehicles".

A very good point Tommo, BUT, we all know what the obvious HGV is ( a great big artic) but is a coach an HGV?

There are a few signs on English roads that warn us it is unsuitable for "Heavy Goods Vehicles AND Coaches", so obviously there is a difference according to those signs.

And then you have roads that just have "Unsuitable For Coaches", granted these are mainly in main tourist places, BUT does that mean roads with these signs ARE suitable for HGV's?

What in your opinion does this sign mean?

I think that sign is a warning to DennisN regarding black cars... Laughing

OK, put a European standard length restriction sign (which everyone will understand) followed by a chicane to make the driver of a long vehicle know that you mean business and twice about going down there... Then have a sign with a truck symbol showing an alternative route for long/large vehicles.

It isn't just sat navs that are the problem, inventing new signs is just going to cause confusion, we already have enough signage clutter on our roads without people inventing stupid new ones...

They also need to start beating up the map providers and GPS manufacturers to stop them sending people down unclassified roads all the time. Evil or Very Mad

[1] It may take several miles of "please perform a legal u turn" for it to find a sutable route, and even then may send you back to that road.

[2] It does look like a low flying radar thinger.

[3] If you drive in another country then you should know the signs. Due care and attention if you ask me! Ker-ching! Wink

I read that to mean a physical width restriction e.g. Two metal poles 7' 6"" apart.

True, that would stop a bus getting through, but they can put in a chicane which would deter a long vehicle but a bus could pass.

All you really want is something to make drivers think, hmm, that looks a bit dodgy followed by a sign showing an alternative route for trucks.

Making a new sign just adds to the clutter of crap signs on our roads today, most of which are meaningless or redundant....

Does it mean, get back to the UK ? It's obviously a 'foreign' sign as the overtaking vehicle (the red prohibited one) is on the left.

Why does the image not appear in my posts ????????

On the subject of signs, has anybody else noticed that on the slippery road sign:

it would be impossible for a car to leave a trail like this because the tyre marks cross over

Also, Ford have an unfair marketing advantage:

what about other manufacturers?

It's not impossible, it's just that you are not trying hard enough. Wink

Let me give you a hint - the car depicted on the sign is not necessarily facing the direction it is traveling in! Laughing
