jack plug / coax connection

Morning all,

The supplied wet string aerial on my GNS9 is all but useless.

I want to connect it to a length of coax. Would I simply cut the wet string aerial and bare the core and then connect this to the central core of the coax or would I need to deal with the coax braiding in some way also ?.
The wet string appears to be a single strand copper core with a pink plastic outer coating, I'm unsure how to deal with or if I need the coax braiding.

Any help would be most welcome.

Leave the ''Wet String'' in place I.E. full length attached to the receiver, bare the end of the wet string as you suggest and connect it to the center core of the coax cable from your aerial (the mini-scan or sky scan mag mounts are very good for using in this application, but any car FM aerial will improve reception).
As for the screen it is best connected to the car chassis to provide a degree of screening, solder a wire to it and connect to an earth stud/ screw in the vicinity you are working, if the car is equipped with air bags take care if messing around in the back of the dashboard - Mike

Wet string now soldered in as described.

TMC now scanning, says TMC present but not locking on. I think I'm in a poor reception area though, I'll see how it goes once I'm out and about.

Where are you loacted in the country as RDS-TMC can be a bit of a postcode lottery - just the nearest town to yourself will give me an idea as to what you should expect - Mike

Is this connected to a MIO 710 per chance, if not what hardware are you using, if it is a MIO device what version of software as I think they swapped RDS-TMC supplier a while back from what I have read - Mike

No, it's a MyGuide 3100 fitted with the GNS FM9 external RDS/TMC adapter via the mini USB port. The software is MyGuide Navigator 6.1 that is I think based on the Igo software.

Once I fitted the FM9 I did a soft reset and it identified the TMC receiver and enabled the TMC settings.
