Tailgating

Do these idiots really think that they'll get there any quicker if they're glued to the bumper of the car in front??

Some moron in front of me this morning was only inches away from the car in front of them and their brake lights were flashing like the lights on a Christmas tree.

What made this even more crazy was that when this idiot had an opportunity to overtake, he didn't, although he'd previously overtaken a car further back up the road. When the next opportunity came, I managed to overtake both of them without exceeding the speed limit and the last I saw of them, the tailgater was still happily stuck to the other guy's bumper.

i'd say it takes longer cos people seem to slow down if they have a tailgater behind them

No, they didn't seem to be together because we drove for several miles along an empty road before meeting the car which was then tailgated.

They were also travelling well below the speed limit - unlike the youngsters that I've come across

That's really odd. People normally tailgate the person in front because they want to get past. Sounds like this person was just plain stupid.

How strange. In these days of mobile phones and short range two way radios, I wonder if they'd arranged to meet up and when 2 caught up with 1, they stuck together and tailgated to prevent anyone overtaking and splitting them up - I've seen it done.

Off Topic!! - How do they do that thing of towing a little car behind (e.g. big motorhome) with all its wheels on the road and nobody inside steering?

Also, Dennis, why do they tow small cars?

All the wear and tear without actually driving the car - why not whack it onto a trailer?

The little car is on an A frame attached to the front of the car at two points and the towing vehicle by one, the design of the steering geometry caster angle like your shopping trolley wheels, makes the steering wheels follow to towing vehicle.

as said you still get the wear, tear and mileage clocked up though on the little car.

All it means is when you get to your destination you park up the camper that only gives you 10 mpg and use the little one that's capable of 40 plus mpg. to go out site seeing Very Happy

A properly setup installation to to a vehicle like this also couples to the small cars brakes so they are automatically applied when the motor home slows down, as for why do this well the motor home is not practical for driving about in when you get to the destination, it takes too long to pack everything up for a quick day out.

Back on topic to the problem of tailgaters, I find a selection of the rear fogs before putting the main beam lights on for a short period usually gets there attention, they don't stay behind for too long after that. I know its not exactly good practice to behave this way, but when dealing with an idiot you do sometimes have to lower your standards for a short period - Mike

How dull!! I've been thinking about it and had decided it was a mouse or spider in there. You know, like when the clock stops it's because the spider or mouse has died and stopped pedalling.
