First record. "I love to go a-wandering", recorded by Rothwell (near Leeds) Primitive Methodists Sunday School choir, must have been early 1950s when I was still a choirboy. That was before they started making a fortune out of children doing recordings. I was too old and sophisticated to get involved with Sparky's piano though.
Do people actually have web pages of their record collections? Oh my God, I've just looked and he does. One advantage - the van breaker-inners would have a difficult job nicking that lot. I didn't look to see if he had the Black Dyke Mills album or any Chopin. But I can just imagine spending a jolly evening listening to the Jive Bunny & The Master Mixers' Let's Party Album. Right on!!

i use a very good bit of software called 'music collector' by collectorz.com and one of the extras of the 'premium version' is the ability to export to html - this is handy when you're in a shop and can't remember if you already have that cd or not just look it up on the phone! also handy for insurance purposes - if the computer gets nicked along with cd's there's a list of everything still n existance

nope - no black dyke mills band (but they're pretty local to me) or chopin... and if you look in the details for jive bunny you'll see it belongs to the mrs...!!!

I was reporting cameras back in 2005 when I first got a GO300 and was lucky enough to be told about this site. I don't know when my first report went in (any idea MaFt?) and I don't know if I ever did a first - I benefited from the kindness of the team giving life memberships to people who had been contributors prior to the introduction of subscriptions. I always say (cos' it's easy to do so  ) that I was just waiting to learn how to subscribe when I got the free one - I'd have paid for it then and I'd still pay for it now - best £19 worth a year I've seen (cos' it's easy to say so ). They made me a Mod for some reasons unbeknownst to me - probably in some desperate effort to keep me on topic, rather than suffer my outrage if they kicked me off the site.

You can bearly get a takeaway for £19 these days, so I don't mind the subscription.
...and reporting cameras is a bit like doing the lottery - you don't expect to be the first to report one, but it would be nice if you were
...as for moderation - good luck you you, but you have to remember your position of authority, get your GPS sorted and make a bit more of an effort to stay on topic (except in this forum, of course)

answer:
a trumpet is a brass instrument and a cornet comes with ice cream and a flake - lovely in this summer weather
a good brass band makes for easy listening...but a bad brass band is ***** awful
I once came across a band which played all the right notes..but not necessarily in the right order and it was laughable - especially when a trumpet player was wearing a REALLY obvious syrup and we spent the evening laughing about that rather than concentrating on their dire musical abilities.
Luckily, I didn't have to pay because I was operating the lighting desk...but we had a laugh using the syrup as our reference point rather than saying 'the trumpet player' or 'the cornet player' for the follow-spot operators who might not have known the difference

no idea... we changed the whole database setup when teh charging came in so we only have records of 'firsts' since feb 2006

What's a syrup? Some sort of softy pants southerner thing?
Here's another. I used to be in a brass band. In my heyday as corporal in the RAF, I was posted to a camp where corporals had more duties than everybody else put together - there were six, including two which involved a week living on camp away from family for a week.
Someone discovered I could read music and suggested I volunteer for the camp band. The suggestion was bolstered by the information that band members were excused all other duties (the Admin Sergeant who allocated duties was the band's base drummer). Right on!!
So I joined and became only the third member of the band who could read music - the Bandmaster, a Salvation Army national serviceman and me. One of my tasks was to help make the music playable - you know they walk around with cards of music on little gripper things? Well, I had to pencil above each note the fingering combination required - 1 & 2, 3 & 1, etc, etc.
Our pièce de résistance was when we played for everybody to march out one day, to the strains of Seventy Six Trombones. It was beyond shocking. It was beyond funny. It was horrifying. I played the double B flat Base and tried desperately to hide my face behind it.

Here's another - I was second choice in Leeds Parish Church choir to go sing at the Queen's coronation. The first choice didn't break his leg or catch measles.
